Re: Stargate Atlantis Hallway Light [Build]

Started to...shield the inside of the boxes, this will shield little of the heat and will increase the light output as the light will reflect...

Re: Stargate Atlantis Hallway Light [Build]

Wow.

I've been lurking for quite a bit, but I had to comment and say, outstanding job! Thank you for being so detailed with your thread overall, as it helps the n00bs (i.e. me) start to get some crazy ideas.

What's this MDF painting tip you kept referring to? :)

Keep it up! You're almost there!

Thanks my mate..! I am so glad you can use this one way or the other :) ...

That MDF -Painting Tip given to me by FuseNova : was to sand the MDF smooth with few standings...and then sand the MDF-lay down Killz primer- sand it again-lay down Killz again--sand with a finer grade sandpaper...

So do this until you reach the smooth heaven and then your MDF piece is ready for the paint job....I was very concerned about the paint...as long as it took to build this thing it would have sucked if the paint didn't work out...but thankfully it came out great..! I cannot wait to put it together...!

Here is the Exact MDF TIP- from my friend FuseNova (thnx mate)

Make as smooth as possible with a few good sandings.

Use several coats of a thick paint on primer like Kilz. Dry, sand, paint again and repeat until the roughness of the MDF is replaced with glossy heaven
then use spray paint from there...

One thing on the kilz, I would suggest using a roller and not brush to make sanding easier. I'm not sure if you know much about sanding but I would start with 120 and move to 240, 320, 400 and maybe even 600 and up for a perfect look.

Re: Stargate Atlantis Hallway Light [Build]

Hi Jess, from pics of various stargate light units, the Led strip was laid out along the box so that the crystal butted against them. The light then traveled up the crystal like a giant fiber optic cable.

I am waiting for that big stargate run by you!!

Re: Stargate Atlantis Hallway Light [Build]

After having a little cold weather for a few weeks....we finally had a warm weekend....so i took advantage of that and tried to do some work and get this project close to getting finished...

Attached all the light boxes onto the light..

The top crown is still in the paint stage...will work on it next...

Re: Stargate Atlantis Hallway Light [Build]

Great build. I could see a couple of these mounted as wall lights in a themed home theater.

Re: Stargate Atlantis Hallway Light [Build]

That turned out incredible. I never realized they were so tall.
