I found a Lindberg Huey at a dollar store awhile back and I thought it would be kind of fun to build a replica of a Huey EZ-4 Duster from Close Encounters.
1/48 scale Lindberg UH-1 Huey
One of the Huey's from the film. The two major components I would have to build were the spot lights and the EZ-4 gas canisters/nozzles.
Overall, the Huey was a general build, with some exceptions.
The onscreen chopper had 'loop bars' on the tail and green tinted greenhouse windows. For that, I airbrushed on Tamiya green clear.
One thing about these 'black ops' choppers, they don't need markings, which saved me a bit.
For the spot lights, I made up a rig that I could be easily inserted into the hold and power by a regular CR2032 battery.
The lights were two mini LEDs I obtained from a craft ribbon set of LEDs.
The canisters/nozzles were made from styrene and kit parts, along with their supports on the landing skids.
I thought it would kinda cool to have it dusting around Devils Tower before the mothership arrives.
The final comp.
Well, there ya go.
Cheers,
