I dont know about the rest of you but i thought Daredevil s2 was the best thing out this year, and i really wanted to make his costume. That said, i can't sew, just not a skill set i've managed to learn yet. So after browsing the RPF and seeing how well people had converted Cosplaysky Captain America costumes into decent looking suits, I thought why not try and do the same with their Daredevil suit. here's a few pics of the suit they sell
as you can see, the base suit looks ok but the details on it just aren't, so i set about creating new parts for this along with a helmet and batons. Here's the patterns for the suit upgrade pieces which were taken as CAD models i made to printed pieces, moulded and cast in rubber
The straps allow them to be adjustable on the suit. With these made the next problem was the padding on the chest. The padding which comes on it is flat and just doesnt push out any areas. I removed this padding and stuck in some EVA foam in the areas which needed some, giving the right look. The upper chest pieces were glued and sewn in and then all the little metal rivets were replaces with proper metal bolts. I took some acrylic paint and shaded areas of the red to add some more depth to the suit. The straps had some cheap silvery faux leather on them, these were removed and replaced with 3d printed clips which look closer to the ones on the netflix suit.
The shoulder pads have also been bolted onto the suit, replacing the cheap faux leather ones which come attached. The undersuit with the hood was also removed and i replaced it with a hood taken from a set of compression gear.
With the suit mostly finished i moved onto the clubs and holster. The clubs were built up and the holster modelled and printed. I've since painted these and added straps.
finally onto the helmet. I bought the files from do3d to print up for my suit. The helmet once printed and assembled was filled, primed, sanded and painted up. finally it was weathered up too. here's the helmet:
Finally, putting the suit together. turns out the belt and stomach of the chest were a bit loose so these were taken in, but with those done the suit's now finished and i have a big convention (london MCM) next weekend to wear it to. here's the final results.
Still awaiting some professional photos but i'll be getting those at the comic con next weekend.
