Final Consensus On Vader ESB Saber Grips?

Working on a replica, and have 2 questions (which I am sure people will have quick answers to, but I've been out of the game a while and couldn't confirm myself):

1) Are the grips angled to account for the "step" on the end of the MPP? I would think so, but every photo of the prop I found, they look straight with the tube... were they cut to sit flush?

2) The black screws - any indication on if these were present in the movie? Or were they added later to hold the grips on? Or is this a debated topic?

2. screws added after ESB for sure, indeterminate if they were present for ROTJ.
