ZK's ZF-1 research thread

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

I'm sorry, the tape i was talking about was what i think they would have used to mask off the rocket so when they painted the yellow it would not go onto the aluminum part of the rocket. Instead of stopping at the rocket tip, it looks like they also painted part of the aluminum tube.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

I have 2 updates. This first one is definite. The second is more of an educated guess.

That is WILD!
The great thing about this is...I already have this piece!

OK...whats the second part?

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Lets talk sight pods. After going over screencaps i have an good idea of what kind knob is used on the sight pod. Question is which EXACT one.

The knob makes a lot of sense to me because of the maglite thing. I started thinking about this after purchasing the screen-used grenade, as you know, the handle is a maglite flash-light. Then I purchased the two blue mini-maglites for the front of the ZF-1...and it occurred to me that someone must have had the different sizes of the flashlight at their disposal for the movie...it just makes sense they would use what they had on hand.

Now this may be a bit of a leap but have you considered the idea that the grenades (also carried by the Mangalore) were supposed to have been manufactured by ZORG's Company as well? The Mangalore, as far as we know, purchase, barter or trade for weapons...who's to say they didn't get the grenades from ZORG in an earlier deal?

It's actually not much of a leap. The rocket launcher setup the mangalorians had in the lobby of the space cruise ship was shooting Estes rockets out of it just like the ZF. Well not the exact ones, I think they had the Estes Pheonix rockets in the launcher. I think Zorg just has the monopoly on weapons manufacturing.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Finally found the other half of my bolts and cut this pile of cash up.:cry

Nice.
Still waiting to receive my POD.

A side note: I've got a note in about the knobs and am hoping to come up with some extra's.
I'll keep you posted.

Nice work guys!

Especially impressed with the Star Trek parts....good eye.

What made you think it was Star Trek in the first place?

Now heres the kicker. There is the mangalore grenade run going on in the JY and there is this pic posted

This looks to me to be the right sized knob with the proper machined tip and knurled edge. Does anyone know if the same guys that built the ZF had anything to do with the managolre grenades? The grenades also have a Maglite flashlight so it makes me think. Of coarse these proper knobs are only available from RS and not available here in the US from their US based company Allied Electric. I will also add this makes even more sense since we know the red button is also an RS part. The RS website is downright now so i can't get the part # to update pg1.

What you guys think?

Ok heres the link from a previous thread:

If people are interested i can do a bulk buy and post these on. The postage charge from RS is quite alot, but if we all want a few of these i can do that.

How many do you think are used on the sight pod?

Nice work by the way.

Thinking about it i can buy the other buttons if people want them to? I have bought myself a red button and yellow one already.

Heres a pic:

The yellow button you have to buy the lens separately, and theres 5 in a bag so i have 4 spares if anyone wants one.

The little slots on the side look like enterprise windows. I know there were alot of poeple who were thinking the same way. One of our members new it but was holding out. :ninja :D
I started looking at Enterprise C and D's but nothing matched. For some reason i thought Voyager came out later than 5thE but by chance i looked at a build and was pleasantly suprised when i saw that pattern.

That yellow Omron light looks good. :thumbsup What diameter is it?

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Fyi, the mangalore rocket they shoot at the bar is the exact same rocket used in the zf. Only difference is paint job, and they put the phoenix decals on it. One was in a profiles auction a while back with some good pics. Theres a thread on the rpf about it somewhere.

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

So i got my Revell Voyager in the post today, and this got me wondering if any other bits on this kit might have been used on the ZF-1.

The piece i was wondering about was the socket where the cable connects into in the side of the sight pod.

While looking at the back of the Voyager box, i noticed some very similar shapes on the Kazon fighter:

Notice on the back end the two curved cone shaped pieces.

Here is a compare with the lower cone, on the left side of this model highlighted in green:

This looks to me like the right piece.

What do you guys think?

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

Might be an idea to check out other pieces from these kits and the Maquis fighter.

Makes things a bit easier when its a found piece rather than having to sculpt from scratch!

Re: ZK's ZF-1 reasearch/build thread

It looks to me to be the one above the one you have highlighted in the picture. The angles look incorrect on the highlighted section.
Or maybe the one end needs to be trimmed?
