Zira, Planet of the Apes

Well, it could just be the pictures washing out the colors a bit...

Your *not the best* work is pretty darn pretty compared to what some people do for their kids on halloween. It looks real and functional.

Keep up the very good work! :thumbsup

Brian from Apemania gave the kids factory seconds Cornelius plaques so that they could get out of my monkey hair while I made them their gorilla pullover masks. Yesterday Ashton insisted on painting since I have taken up the brush to start painting again.

This is me gassing up the horseless carriage. I wish I had more time to do a better job with the makeup. I only had one hour to slap on the makeup and five minutes to put my wig on. :cry

The Escape Zira outfit is not forgotten. Today at the fabric store I found some cloth for Zira's long skirt and vest. Here's a photo. It's called moleskin, some kind of polyester. I'm just collecting fabric for this project. I still need to source the swing jacket material, but I know I'll eventually find it.

I can't believe I JUST found this thread! Jessica, you're work here is AMAZING!

I love the candid pictures of you in your costume out shopping, pumping gas... that's priceless!

Yay! I finally found the materials to upgrade the bandolier. The difference between the first one and this new one is like night and day.

I've decided to try my hand at creating my own foam latex. Here's how she looks now. (I am still tweaking her lower jaw)...

Still working on sourcing all of the materials/equipment so I can finally make a mold and try to bake me some foam latex.

The new face looks great. Looking forward to seeing it in foam (and under paint on your face). I've been in awe of your Zira since your first posting. Good luck.

Hi I`m new here. just wanted to say your work is amazing jessica. I had a couple of questions for you. I just wanted to see if you might sale me some of your zira prosthetics? They are Awesome!! Your a very talented artist! Also I wanted to ask if you might know of someone or place that can make a really good replica of cornelius`s green and leather shirt? Any info. could be Great. Hope to hear from you.- James

Working on trying to create a positive out of a vacu-formed face so that I could resculpt Zira's face. Here's my first stab at it.

I don't think you're working hard enough, Jess. This shoulda been done by now (I'm joking). Looks good as always.

Behold my first ever Ultracal30 positive!!

She came out smoother than I expected, despite the fact that the gloves I bought were way too big (didn't realize that)...and that the whole process was way messier than I expected.

Only thing that really sucks is that one of my keys is thinner than I anticipated--I overlooked this, and will have to try to fix it later.

And here it is in the $50 convection oven, to make sure it's going to fit when I'm ready to bake the foam latex.

Now to resculpt Zira's face with clay...

Fabulous work on this Jessica! I've been following your progress for some time. Absolutely first rate!

Sorry about the crap cell phone photos, but i'm so excited about this project. still in the early stages, trying to perfect the shape before I go in there and do the minor tweaking. I seriously don't think you could mess up an ape sculpt.
