Zeigrin's ironman mkVI build! (***large spring break update***)

Re: Winter break ironman build! (***Thinking the cod out of foam is next.***)

So finally began work on the cod after scaling it all the way up to 30 and I'm hoping thats large enough (Damn my big butt!). Here's all the parts laid out on the foam and ready to be cut.

Here is the thickness of the foam I'm using. It's about a half inch thick. Hoping this doesn't make it too bulky to work with.

Getting the parts all laid out and ready to assemble. Here is the front where I am going to begin working.

Here are some of my cuts that didn't come out too great. I might be trying to recut these edges depending on how these parts go together.

Anyways here's to a long night of production!

Re: Winter break ironman build! (***Thinking the cod out of foam is next.***)

Quick update, the cod is coming together. Not the cleanest part I have ever made but thats to be expected as it is my first foam part. Still not sure if its a right fit but if nothing else this has been a nice introduction to foam parts :).

Re: Zeigrin's ironman mkVI build! (***Cod Almost done and chest resined***)

Hi everyone! sorry about the lack of updates lately! been pretty busy with a few things going on here in real life. Found some time to work the other night though and for a bit of resin laid down. With winter break over coming tue for me I won't be working as fast but am going to try to still get things done in free time about 3 times a week or so with the possibilities of having heavy duty build days on sundays. So since the break is coming to an end I have renamed the title of the post :D.

Any ways here some pics of the resin process using my heat box to cure parts in the cold. The chest was a bit too big for the box so I couldn't close it. So to allow the parts to get warm enough so that the resin could react properly I draped some old painting plastic tarp material over it to keep the heat in.

This isn't the best pic of the part but you can see the nice light brown shade of the cardboard is now a rather ugly deep brown after soaking up the chemicals. I only managed to get one coat down that day and still have yet to get the fiberglass going. That might be a project for this sunday pending how cold it gets.

Here is where I sit on the Cod piece. Hoping to finish it up tonight finally and get the next part all queued up and ready to cut tomorrow. Assuming it fits I will have made a nice bit of progress :D

Re: Zeigrin's ironman mkVI build! (***Cod Almost done and chest resined***)

Finished the Cod... Well sorta... Got it far enough to determine that it wasn't going to work out. :cry Why must I be such a tank! Anyways if nothing else now I have a base line to go off for the next attempt at scaling the midsection. This experience has also given me a chance to tone my foam skills so the next part should be better. ^_^

Why doesn't it work, if you don't mind me asking? It looks really good.

Yeah, I feel the same after my first foam piece, may end up redoing it just cuz you learn so much doing it

Why doesn't it work, if you don't mind me asking? It looks really good.

I'm just big that's all It doesn't move up past my thighs and If I could get it too it would be way too tight to work out well. It was a scale of 30 so I'm thinking of trying 35 next...

Re: Zeigrin's ironman mkVI build! (***Cod Almost done and chest resined***)

Quick update. Hoping to have the new cod finished tonight! Here is a quick idea of what the difference of scale is. I think it should fit nicely. Might even be a tiny bit big but I can fix that easily :)

Hey all, Been rather quiet lately as my semester keeps me rather busy. However, the spring break has me going hard and I have gotten a lot done this week!

Arduinos by Jason Kidrowski, on Flickr

I started off my break by messing around with micro controllers to control my helmet automation as well as light handling for the eyes. It has been very helpful thanks to 7sinzz and his tutorials. They really helped me to going quickly. Now I'm working on modding their design a bit as well as rigging up the parts within the helmet.

Then this is the controller all set up and ready to go. Used a wimpy micro servo to get everything working at first.

So with all this work on the electronics I figured I should finally cut apart the hemet since I will be finishing up all the final sculpting and sanding after I have everything mounted and working within the helmet anyways.

This is the housing that I have made for the servos out of an electrical box. It will be mounted within the top of the helmet. The plastic parts off the the side are some custom arms for the servos that I last cut out of 1/4 inch cast acrylic to mount to the face plate.

While I was working on the laser cutter I also took the time to prototype the arc reactor for the suit. I'm considering getting an Arduino mini to program a breathing effect for the light board that I'm going to be using for it.

Finally I ended up heavily modding the thigh part to add enough room for me to fit comfortably. the mods seem to put a but of pressure on the knee so I'm thinking to straighten it out I will be gluing a paint stick on the inside to help straighten it out so it holds it's shape right.

Then to wrap it all up I bought this to coat the foam in when I'm done. I saw a thread a while back about it and decided that I wanted to use it to seal up my foam. A big deciding factor was that it's self leveling and sand-able which will help me to fix up some small gaps and imperfections from my slight mistakes.

I have also got a lot done as far as fiber glassing the chest and getting the shoulders I'm salvaging in decent working order. :) whew long post... Beck to work now! :D

:love man this is sick! can't wait to see this baby glowwwww :thumbsup awesome arc for an awesome suit from an awesome builder!

Thanks a lot! :) Looking to have it all done by May so I'm going to try to get a ton done this month. Going to have to make some time :D
