Yoda's long lost cousin - our custom alien

A year ago we decided to make a creature of our own design. We wanted something that wasn't Star Wars to show some of our abilities and voila ... this little guy was born:

He isn't quite finished. He needs a beetle counterpart to sit on the backpack that will have some minor animatronics and we still want to make his left hand in latex.

I know he's not exactly a prop replica but hopefully that's o.k :) He is basically a product of the Star Wars addiction.

Here is the concept art by artist Jeff Herndon:

Artist James Holley putting some finishing touches on the head sculpt:

We did a rough life cast part way through the sculpt in order to start sculpting the helmet:

Very nice. He looks like he is not happy to have his work interupted. You should put a saber or some other device on his workbench under the, uh, solder gun? :thumbsup

That's so cool!! I'd like to come see this guy in person ;)

yeah... please do! :) Thanks!

Very cool... always nice to see original works here.

Love the backpack!

Tom

Thanks Tom! The original concept for the backpack was more futuristic and smooth but I've wanted to do something "steampunky" for a while so I figured I'd go for it. He is supposed to have a beetle that sits on his backpack over his shoulder. The beetle has an electric charge like an electric eel. The charge is harnessed by the backpack and mixes with a gas to make his welder work. I want to team up with Jim (Hyperdyne) and give him a glowing core and some anodized wings that flutter. He also needs a rubber hand :)

Does he have a name?

No... not yet :) I was thinking of having a contest in our garrison of the 501st or maybe on our facebook page ..... hmmmm... have to think about that.

That's exactly what we were going for. He is looking up at you like ".. what do you want?!" We wanted to make some weathered alien blueprints rolled up in his left hand.

So.. anyone want to offer up name suggestions for this guy?

I was calling him "Gray" for a while.

Also I would love to have a comic representation of this guy for our mascot. I have some great T-shirt ideas.

That is very cool. He looks like he might be a Pod Racer from one of the Star Wars prequels. Really awesome work!!!

Thanks. Yeah he could certainly be one of those guys or a mechanic for one of them ;)

He looks very much inspired by the characters in the crappy movie Mac and Me

LOL... too funny! You're right but I don't think ... unless he was buried somewhere in our subconscious, that he was inspiration.
