Y-wing helmet greeblies: What's identified? Research thread

Since I have an old y-wing helmet kit lying around, what is known about the greeblies on the helmet? To my understanding, there are two helmets (or more) which came out basically of the same mold but had different greeblies attached to them.

Since one greeblie clearly says "yamaha" stamped in, I think this was nailed down.

Of interest would be the circuit board underneath the yamaha piece, the mic attachemend and the greeblie on the other side of the helmet.

Any clues? There is a decent picture archive on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/80919139@N00/sets/72157616544248405/) from a guy (credit goes to him) who visited SW in concert.

Since I visit the event in April, I may get some additional shots of the item.

No one? I think I've managed to track down the exact mic tip that has been used on the original one. Since I was able to get an original Y wing helmet from ROTJ (production made but never used on screen) it would be cool to ID the other parts as well. As I've mentioned, I hope to make some decent pics of an original one since I'll visit SW in concert in April.

The mic (hopefully) I was able to identify, the yamaha piece is also known by now. Now the piece under the yamaha greeblie and the greeblies on the other side are in interest.

If you don't mind, what's the mic tip you've found? I've found something close that might be modifiable in a plantronics h-51n supra headset. Its got the right basic shape but it has "mic barrels" to it.

That's close!

The (what I think) correct type is the same brand and the type is SNC1603-01 although you find nothing with this model number. The one with the model number SDS1031-01 looks to be more common.

Mine has no barell. I was told it was commonly used by air traffic controllers.

I will set up some pics of the mic and the original helmet itself when I have time. It's the same bucket as seen on the link at starwarshelmets.com - a production made but never finished one (to be seen with grey primer only).

thanks

Update: quick and crappy pic

There is also another greeblie above the frown, gotta see how long it takes too find out what it is. Now I don't know the exact brand but it looks like an ordinary 64-pin female connector as used in some instrumentals.

Also, there is a strange thing on the side of the helmet under the "chin". I think this could be a low impendance connector from a vintage camera.

cheers

I plan to make a cast of this helmet for my private use, since I won't alter the original helmet with greeblies, paint etc.

If I ever plan to offer casts, then it would be in summer (humidity, temperature). It's too cold now for doing this stuff.

Honestly I don't think that I will since I'm not in the situation to recoup a bit of the money that was spent on this helmet. If I ever will, I won't offer them here anyway (maybe rebellegion.com) since I'm leaving this board soon.

I am sure you will found many interessted people here and on rebellegion.
Put me on your list! I will buy 3 of them if you cast it.
I am in the process to build my own and my molds are on an professionel Modelmaker to vaccfoam it BUT a copie of an original is better! I hope to became it back this week.At the moment I working on an exactly visor. First pictures of my helmet you can see here:

Found this picture of the Y-Wing Helmet. You can see the part which is under the Yamaha greeblin from inside. It looks like an earphone.Maybe from an Headset?

That's a cool shot! Thanks for that!

The fact that it's round excludes many other variables...good guess with the earphone electronic. I will take apart my plantronics headset when it arrives :), you never know.

As I've said I don't know if I ever plan to offer casts. If I do, then only for the fun of it.

Also, I won't doing any vacumforming since I don't have the hardware to do so. The one cast I will use for building up a replica will be done in fiberglass and in one piece.

Seem's that the connector is also no more a miracle. Credit goes to ywingfighter!

The correct one is more a Glenair Connector than an ITT Cannon one. I just snagged some on the bay, hoping that they will fit.

Also, I hope to get better pics of the original helmet in some weeks. Just the weird greeblie under the yamaha model kit part has to be found.

cheers

The headset arrived today. Mint condition. Here are some pics of the mic itself. I'm pretty sure this is the one they used on the original prop. It is from a plantronics headset (the type I've mentioned above), but the mic doesn't have this "barrel" on it.

I'm 99% sure that THIS is the one they used.

Still waiting for the connector.

Sure, I'll post some better pics of it too. Hope the connectors I've ordered will also arrive the next few days.

Nice helmet. I to would be interested in a cast.

One of my favourite star wars helmets.

The yamaha bit, also looks like an old telephone earpiece inner bit.
