XRobots Iron Man: Video added page 22, fours years into 4 mins

Re: XRobots Iron Man Mk6 UPDATED: Fiberglassing thighs video added

It's much cheaper in the USA. 9.8oz tube (280ml) is about $4.50, or £2.78. So about £10 per Kg. And to make it cure, just knead it under warm soapy water for a minute; it starts to get a bit less liquid, and after it sets in about 15 minutes. Works decently. Still lower quality than the proper ways you're using.

That's interesting, I'm pretty sure it's the moisture in the air that makes Caulk cure with no catalyst, hence 'condensation cure' Silicone, so it makes sense that water would speed it up. It could be ok for small 'one shot' moulds, but I don't like the thought of doing a whole suit that way ;-)

Great job on everything you've done thus far. I really like the exo-skeleton idea. I read through most of your thread and skimmed through the last few pages looking for what you used to cut your foam but couldn't find anything on it. Did you use a heat knife, exacto knife maybe? Thanks for any info you can give me. :D

Yes a sharp knife - a 'snap off blade knife', nothing special.

Re: XRobots Iron Man Mk6 UPDATED: Thighs PART 2 video added

Here's last nights effort on cleaning up one thigh piece. These casts really aren't great so it's going to take a lot more sanding and filling. I'm using drum sanders for the inside edges, and also a power file (a thin hand held belt sander), which is extremely messy/dusty, so I'm also going to await delivery of a workshop dust extractor before doing any more. Video to follow of this and making the replacement vacuum formed side panels for the thighs.

I've made the best I can from the thighs, still a few more dings and dents to sort out, but they are passable:

Here are the next parts of the Exoskeleton for the thighs, I should have another video update soon, and this will be the last major part of the suit:
