WWII RAF Pilot's helmet

I'm going to try to reproduce a type 'C' (also maybe a type 'B') RAF pilot's helmet. It would be easier if I had a sewing pattern but I have yet to find one. Depending on how that turns out I'll take a shot at the "D" type oxygen mask. Are there any WWII re-enactors with advice to give. I have an original type 'B' but of course I'm not about to take it apart to see how it's put together. I have a particular Doctor Who character in mind.
