Worst Costumes and Props

The absolute worst monster puppet...ever!!

The Giant Claw!

For my money it would have to be the just about everything from the "classic" Christopher Lee flick "Starship Invasions" (1977). The Robot was lame, the ships had the Plan 9 Frisbee look, and the costumes were complete rubbish... err... ok some of them were good. :love

The Giant Claw!

They farmed out the effect to a Mexican effects company. Wouldn't you have loved to see the look on the actor's faces the first time they saw the monster! :lol

"Starship Invasions" , the movie with the inflatable flying saucer. A big balloon, and it looks it.

For me the worst was "End of the World" (End of the World (1977)) also with Christopher Lee. They did blowup the world at the end, an obvious paper mache globe. :eek There is also an outside scene at a seminary were you can see a large tripod mounted light reflector in plain site in the middle of a scene. It was so blatant that it took me a few seconds to figure out what was wrong with the scene. :confused

Re: Worst Costumes and Props - Starship Invasions

I know Starship Invasions was a BAD movie - I actually walked out of the theatre half way through the film. But I saw it a few years later and appreciated it for what it was. Sometimes I have the guilty pleasure of a really bad B-Movie. I don't think anyone has ever tried to use the double barrelled finger laser props since this film. :love I did buy the DVD from Ebay (yes I know there was NEVER an official release - someone copied the VHS to a DVD format.) But the film was a fictional adaptation of the UFO craze of the time. The costumes were based on "real" accounts of UFO abductions - were it seemed the ALIENS only wore Spandex. :lol

Anyone care to try a Double Barrelled Finger laser death ray !!!

Wow, the look on Christopher Lee's face in this photo is priceless. A combination of: "Help me." "Why am I wearing spandex?" and "Someone call my agent."

I'm sure after Starship Invaders was released in '77, Christopher Lee was a little bit jealous of Peter Cushing's success that year....

In the picture (with the Redhead) he does have that "Good God, what am I doing here? Wearing this!" look on his face.

His Armageddon Watch would be an easy enough prop to replicate, I can't remember if the double-barreled finger pistol was ever shown in great detail. I remember getting downloading the movie eMule a few years back (I never delete anything), so I'll have to rummage through the TB or so of movies and porn I just can't seem to part with and watch this cinematic gem.

The Robot costume would be a laugh to see!

Every single Godzilla costume, and all the monsters he has fought. Those costumes all look absolutely horrendous. They've got their charm, as do the movies, but let's not kid ourselves. Those are some serious pieces of s***.

I have come to hate the design of Luke's lightsaber in ANH and ESB. It is incredibly non-ergonomic, and it looks exactly like what it's made from - a camera flash handle, with a window wiper cut into strips. It doesn't detract from the movies for me, but if I look directly at those hilts, I get annoyed.

I still want to see this one day...(cannot give an honest opinion having not seen it but), since it was 'so bad' it was never released it might but worth of this category...

Sacrilege! How dare you! Luke's lightsaber hilt is one of the most iconic props in movie history! It...umm...yeah, okay. :D

But seriously, that's sometimes a problem with props made from real-life items--once you know what they are, you can only see that and can no longer see it as the prop it's supposed to be. I have that problem with the device McCoy used to repair Chekov's head trauma in Star Trek IV; once I recognized that part from the AMT Klingon D7 model kit that's glued to the top of it, that's all I could see whenever I've watched that scene. :facepalm

That's why I appreciate how Lucas had it retconned for the prequels. The walls were thickened around the emitter, the clamp around the center with the labels was replaced with a diamond-knurled collar, the bubble strip/circuitry strip was replaced by a futuristic etched gold thing, the lever was replaced by a wobbly gold greeble; and most importantly, the window wipers were flattened to make it more comfortable.
