I promise you you wont get the orangy color the studios finally received...there is rumor they added dye to it as well as weathering....
[/b]

Yes, listen to Mantis...he DID actually weather a red striped jacket...now only if he had pics... ;)

Isn't the jacket in post #444 the prototype before it went to the studio?
[/b]

Yep its the prototype jacket :D :D

I've got a question for any wested owners... I recently bought one, it hasn't come yet, and I was wondering if the pockets are realy ventilation pockets, or just storage pockets? Thanks

Well, I'm going to be traveling up to Vanson this Saturday to order a jacket and get my measurements taken directly. I'm going to try and get the width of the waist stripes narrowed a little bit. Will let you know how it goes.

My wested came in the mail this morning. Such soft leather, I'll post pictures when I can. By the way, in my last post I asked if the front zippers work as vents, they don't. Which is okay because I'm going to save up to get a Vanson jacket, not a wolverine one, just a really nice jacket. I mainly just wanted this wested for a cool jacket, I'll get a serious bike one later.

Cool. I know you're not getting a vanson wolf jacket, but just in case, the zippers are actually pockets on the vanson.

Oh no way, that's cool, I didn't know that. You know, I am actually thinking about getting a vanson jacket. I'm just not sure if I want a wolverine one, I'm still thinking it over. I just want a jacket that I can trust if I reck my bike, I don't want a wimpy little jacket. I'm going to go to a local BMW dealership to try on some vansons(they have a few there) and I'll see how they fit me.

I got a Wested X1 the other day and I love it. I had the stripes at the waist taken off though as I didnt want a screen replica I just liked the look of the X1. Its one of the best jackets Ive ever had. I also got talking to the owner (I only live 20 mins drive from there workshop) and he said he will definately be doing an X3 version but he had to go to an Indiana Jones convention and would do the Prototype on his return. So it shouldnt be too long. Also they have changed the angle and hight on the zippers now, Its good to know they listen to feed back.

Knightsaber,

your jacket makes me want to get a Vanson. Thank you very much for the information (I'm the guy that emailed you about a week or two ago). Now all I have to do is find the money. :eek
[/b]

Hey Will, that's no problem. As far as the money goes, it's only half down to start the jacket and the other half upon completion...and worth every penny.

Mike, if you read this do me a favor. Don't mean to beat a dead horse, but I think there were/are actually two different patterns for the waist stripes. I take your word that the pattern used on my jacket has always been the same, but I have just seen too much that suggests another pattern. Dont' take this as a sign of dissatisfaction. I LOVE my jacket and have no problems with it. But for the sake of others that may want the pattern on the jacket pictured above, try and look into that.

Mike told me the waist stripe patterns have not changed. According to him, it was the massive weathering what made them look thinner. I don't know much about leather, but the waist stripes in Mantis former Vanson jackets and in the red striped proto look as thin as the ones seen in the movie. Mike said this can only be done at the costumer's request, and I know Mantis did a lot of research when it came to ordering his jacket, for he knew Vanson would make a different product from what was seen on screen. Perhaps Mantis can chime in regarding the waist stripes he got. I know the waist stripes in his Vanson jacket pic, next to the destroyed Robocop display, are as thin as I want them in my jacket.

Yes, that's what I gathered too. Mike is a great guy and I have no reason to discredit him, but my only issue with that explanation is this...If the stripe width we see in the movie is caused by weathering, then why does the jacket on page 23, which is unweatherd and still in the Vanson shop, have the EXACT same width as in the movie and on Mantis' jackets and in this pic???:
[attachmentid=10976]

I have two theories. 1) There is another pattern. or 2) It is the same pattern, but the edges are folded under, thereby creating the proper thinner look as in the movie. If not for the "proto" pics on the previous page, I would be more apt to accept the weathering explanation.

LOL, no offense to vanson but the stripes were the stripes...of the jackets I have ordered and received they were all the same size and wdith and were correct...these are not. I think they may have lost the pattern for the waist stripe.

Thank you Mantis. Now I don't feel like such a fool for pushing this so much, haha. You are kinda the go to guy for the Vanson jacket...since you owned 3 of 'em. So if they no longer have the correct pattern, what do we do? djinn is going there on saturday i think. Maybe he can sort things out...pictures, lots of pictures...
But one thing I don't get is this...Vanson HAS one of the ORIGINAL jackets there in house...Even if they lost the pattern, why did they not make a new one based on that?

Well, we just can't stop rebuilding this jacket, can we?

Mantis, Mike, at Vanson, asured me your jackets were color walnut. Is this true? I'm going with walnut because it is the darkest brown they've got. I'd ask you to check under the number tag, but I know you no longer own these. Do you remember if it was Walnut or MI9?

Well, we all need to prepare Dijiin, so he shows up prepared to iron things out for himself and other jackets.

Sounds good, I'm gonna wait to see what happens with this one. :)

So, here's my plan right now... going on KnightSaber's lead and the comments Mantis has made, I'm going to order my jacket like this:

Wolf Style
Walnut Color
Same color gussets
Gold Trim

I will ask for the stripes around the waist to be changed according to KnightSaber's recommendation of 1-1/2 inches at the zipper and 5-1/4" (I split the difference) at the back.

Here are consolidated images from the past couple of pages to help review my selection:

Any comments and suggestions from the experts out there before my trip on Saturday would be GREATLY appreciated.

I thrrew this together real quick. It shows the difference between what I believe to be the original size and the current design. Keep in mind that I made this based on the measurements of my stripes and my own personal estimations. Dijinn, I would just go with the 5" measurement for the back. It's a nice round number and looks to be about right.

Am I crazy? yes. :p

Oh and one more thing. Mike does read this thread. He found the RPF some time ago. I'm not sure how he found it, but he did, so dijinn, he will probably be expecting you, hehe.

Hi there,

finally I'm able to post. About the dimension of the stripes, if Vanson lost the original pattern they must have lost it a long time ago, because I bought my Wolverine jacket about 5 years ago and the waist stripes are allready a little bit biger than on the Prototype (see page 14 in this threat). On the zipper they are 4cm (about 1,6") and on the back part they are 13cm (about 5.2") wide.

Oh, and they offered different leather types back then. My jacket is made of horse leather and was quite the body armor the first 3 years untill it started to break in a little. But I can still put it on the ground and it stands after more than 5 years of wearing it on a dayly basis. :)

I looks like the invisible man is wearing your jacket in the last pic. It does look like your waist stripes are thicker.

Question: The inside of the sleeves, the gussets, are supposed to be gold too, right? That is by going with the movie look.

Hi Cole, welcome to the RPF. Your stripes may be a tad wider than my estimates, but do keep in mind, as Mike told me, even though there is a pattern, they are still drawn and cut by hand so each piece will differ slightly. I'm not exactly sure what the actual current pattern looks like, but the problem is that it is wide enough to change the look of the stripe when placed on the jacket. They are all the same basic shape, but that extra inch or so makes a good bit of difference. When you get a chance, try and take some pics of your jacket so you can se the stripe from front to back like in the picture above.

And Gun, as for the gussets, I'm told that they were the trim color as seen on the proto pic. I just like the look of the same color gussets better. If you have the DVD take a look at the scene when Logan is sitting at the bar. There are some good shots of the gussets there. Should help you decide.
