WKRP Mug Question

With the coming of the first season of WKRP on dvd I was wondering if anyone had ever done Johnny Fever's coffee mug? The stills I can find are too small to read. I remember it being the air names he had over the years, and his real name on it, too. Other than that, nothing. Help?

I wonder if the music is going to be on the DVD. They had so much background rock it was an issue to get the rights for everything.

I hope so.. I hate when they replace music like that.

They cleared a lot of the stuff, from what I understand. But, according to tvshowsondvd.com there are some substitutions. Hugh Wilson was involved in making the changes, and he says he's happy with the few things they changed.

Things that CANNOT be changed include: "Tiny Dancer" it made no sense with another song and the Russian guy saying "Hold me closer, (something else)," to Bailey; when the format changes and Johnny plays "Queen of the Forest" by Ted N; and after his daughter leaves he spins "The Long Run" as he reads her letter. Travis runs in and yells something like, "That's on the playlist. It's a hit.."

Oddly enough, when I was 14 and wanted to go into radio, I thought I'd end up like Fever. Middle-aged, burned out, and a lot of cool stories at some low-rated AM station in an okay sized market. I almost made it, too. I left radio before I got middle-aged, but I was burned out and have a lot of cool stories. Except I worked at a low-rated FM station in NC.

I need to pick up one of those "Black Death Malt Liquor" t-shirt Fever wore on EvilBay.

I found this replica WKRP mug (note the backside is not accurate nor is the shape of the mug. See original mug photos below in my next post)...

Also, here's some info from the WKRP in Cincinnati forum...

Thanks, Galactifan. That is so cool. Now, I need to find the style of mug at my local pottery shop.

ETA:

It says (if anyone besides me cares):

Johnny

Sunshine
*Caravelle*
Midnight
Duke
Style
Cool (with a line through it)

I found this photo in one of my vintage tv books. It clearly shows a "sun smiley face with sunglasses" on the other side of Johnny Fever's coffee mug...

There was a real WKRP somewhere in southern Georgia. While Cincinnati had a WKRC in town.

Thanks for all the pics and info. I hope to be able to find a blank mug to do this on.
