Witch King first attempt, total noob

Ok, this is my first attempt at making a costume, a replica, or anything of this nature. This was just something done on a whim. Looking at what has been done by tons of the members on this board it is certainly nothing special, but was a heck of a learning process. First lesson learned, bondo fumes, whew. I am pretty sure I just made grad school in the fall much more challenging than it would have been. Lost plenty of brain cells for this stunt.

I did this thing out of matt board. I have tons of photographic supplies, and lots of the matt board from the days that I thought it would be better to do it myself rather than pay for it to be matted. Ha, that is another story.

Thanks Indy. Mith, I am contemplating the entire costume. Right now just trying figure out how to finish it. Having not done this before I am undecided how to do it. Was thinking a base layer of a dark metallic paint.

I did the horns a little different from most that I had seen. Decided to just use rolled up paper coated with resin. First, it is what I had around. Secondly this thing was already starting to get a little heavy.

This is how it currently sits. I will probably ad the last layer of bondo tonight so that the horns are blended in to the rest of it. Right now they are just epoxied on. Wow, my place is never going to smell the same again, haha.

Lookin pretty good ^^ keep in mind that if the mattboard is still flexible at all the bondo may crack if it's not very thick. you may want to look at glassing the inside a bit

Thanks for the tip, but it has a coat of resin through and through. It will survive a 6 foot drop with no ill effects. That was of course before the horns. Feel certain those won't take the drop.

Thanks for the compliments. So much better than to hear the princess keep telling me that thing is hideous, lol.

Ok, it is painted. took a little longer than I anticipated. Has 4 different coats of various colors. Let me know what ya think. As far the rest of the armor, think I will do the gauntlets next. For those I am pretty sure I will use styrene. Need some practice with that as next on my list will try to convert an old model into a vf-2ss from Macross.

I just got done with my Witch King costume, you can see it in my thread. Let me know if you have any questions.

Bondo and Resin isn't very apartment safe, but there are alternatives to it if you want to save your lungs.

I really appreciate the feedback. The talent possessed by this board just absolutely blows my mind. What is the opinion of aqua resin? Good, bad, indifferent?

I've used aqua resin and I still have a ton of it left. I tried it and didn't like it at all for doing prop work. If and when I do another sci-fi armor type build I will probably use epoxy sculpt and plastic to make it. I will probably just use the Aqua Resin for casting other things. It feels more like clay than a resin.

I bought some three years ago because I didn't have the space for true bondo-resin-fiberglass constructions. But I gave up on it pretty quickly.

I would highly recommend styrene for a 'midevil' armor style build. I've recommended it before on here. Especially if you are doing your work in an apartment. Because it's thin, after you paint it it looks like thin metal.
