Well like the title says I'm starting a cutaway saber. Of course the first thing I have to do is cut the saber in half. It is an OWK saber so it's not as easy as it sounds. Because of it's thicker parts, a simple dremel and a steady hand won't do the trick like it would on a graflex or mpp flash.

What's the best way to go about this??? I'm thinking that laser cutting would be the easiest. However I don't know whether that it's cost prohibitive (still waiting for the estimates to come back)

So if anyone has experience or suggestion in either laser cutting or cutaway sabers and would like to chime in, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks - SoS

Re: Cutting Steel Parts for a Saber Cutaway???

Very interesting. I searched a few and sent in for estimates.
Any idea on what kind of prices to expect?

From my experience the actual cut will likely be about $75-$100, the big variable is what they charge for 'setup'...

The positive thing is that it will only remove a hairs thickness of material so you will have 2 perfectly good halves to work with...

Thanks!

Yes that would be perfect to have only a hairline of material removed in the process. :thumbsup
