Will we live to see Avatar 2 ?

As I've said before this is the largest underwater movie ever filmed, in space. With the way, being practical, the move was filmed I'm curious if a version will be released at some point of the raw footage. Meaning no cgi, just the performers both human and animal, practical puppets and animatronics, stand ins, duct tape and all.
I assume they will. Cameron loves his BTS stuff. The Making Of featurettes for Aliens and Terminator 2 are some of my favorites. Super in-depth. There was tons of BTS stuff available for the first movie; making of featurettes, art books, etc. I imagine they'll so the same for the sequel.

Looks like if we don’t get Nuked or hit by an asteroid Dec 16 is the release date :)

I’ve lost count of how many release dates we’ve gotten for this movie

The Na'vi is just another "noble savage" trope. At least other noble savages were people who actually existed.
Now we get to feel class guilt and be self righteous in our opposition of cultural oppression against a race that isn't even real.

I hate Na'vi.

Saw the preview in imax tonight . Looked as technology advanced as a 2009 movie and I swear some of the shots were from the ride at Disney, there was no dialogue. I wanted to yell “my Jake !!!” when there was a camera push into saldanos characters face.
HARD pass for me.

It's an homage when it's done with craft, meaning it works within the context of the story being told.

Take the shot of the Nazgul riding out from Minis Tirith in LOTR. It's a low angle shot that looks identical to the kind you'd see in a western where you see the posse ride out to take out the bad guys. Only this time it's the villains riding out to take out the heroes. Plus it's taking a trope from Westerns used in a Sword and Sorcery film. That's craft. It uses a reversal of tropes and puts them in a new context. It's subconsciously familiar, while also feeling new.

By contrast look at Super 8. An unseen alien kills people violently and without mercy then suddenly tries to garner sympathy from the kids when they realize he looks like E.T. and just wants to go home. That's a rip off, because it's trying to copy a movie that actually works, and uses the reference without working within it's own story because everything leading up to that doesn't even remotely match up with the end.

I've watched it a few times, and as beautifully rendered as it is, as far as trailers go; there's not much that makes me say I can't want to see it.

I will see it, no doubt about it. But it's underwhelming.

Aaahh JJ. I'll never miss him.

Cameron is greatly influenced by Nature, the conservation of it, and the oceans of course. Since that enormous body of water of our planet is still unknown for the most part, he made a few deep sea missions himself to explore and film some of them.
Of course; this is translated in the first movie and also more so in the next installments.

I was quite late at finally giving Avatar a viewing, and there was nothing in it that would prompt me for a second viewing. The trailer for this one aired ahead of Multiverse of Madness, and it did nothing for me. Despite being a huge fan of science fiction and design, I don’t feel any positive emotions towards this film even happening, and can’t wrap my head around why the first was so popular.

Minor side note: while other people saw the movie multiple times, and I remember friends saying it was a mindblowing, amazing experience, I actually didn't see the movie until probably about 2013 or so. As I noted, I saw it at home, on my nice 54" plasma (which in 2012 was state of the art). I wore the 3D glasses for it.

Prior to that, I hadn't wanted to see it unless I could do a decent 3D watch of it, given that that was the big draw.

The 3D was initially impressive, but grew less so over the course of the film. Visually, it was pretty, but by 2013 when I was watching it, it just reminded me of a video game. Like, it wasn't that big a deal to me.

The thing that got me, though, was my general sense of "I don't get it. Why was everyone so over the moon for this movie? It's really nothing special outside of the visuals." And my ultimate conclusion was....that really was all there was to it. It was visually spectacular in 2009 and....that's it.

It reminds me of the hype that surrounded Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within when that film first came out. Another technological marvel in its day which has since been largely ignored. I watched that one, too, and found it about as "meh" as Avatar. The story was nothing special, the visuals were fairly impressive, and several years later, technology marched on in leaps and bounds and completely eclipsed what the film did.
One of the major things I find in 3D is you get a few flashy Deep depth of field shots at the start of one to draw you in, maybe a flashy WB a la Harry Potter logo then it seems to peater out... Or your eyes get adjusted to it but many a time I found myself removing my glasses mid movie and couldn't tell the difference said for some odd blurring...
A few jump scares along the way maybe, I still find Friday the 13th in 3D to have some good elements and that was like back in 1983!.. Maybe Cgi works differently as in its harder to trick the mind?
