who saw Gladiator in the theater?

I just watched this amazing film again, which I never got to see at the movies.

Those of you who did: Do you remember any good audience participation/reactions? Good atmosphere? I'm sure the scene where the slaves win their first match and Maximus reveals his identity got some good audience reactions. Not to mention early in the movie when he escapes execution and methodically eliminates several Praetorians.

I did. Great theater experience, the crowd reacted really well to the big moments.

One of my favourite movies.:thumbsup

I remember it well. Loads of disappointment aplenty and people being annoyed with the shutter cam in the fight scenes. Lots of headaches. And the story was simpler and more derived than Avatar.

We saw it in theater, and enjoyed it. That said, we didn't have much in the way of audience participation as we went the last week it was showing and there were a grand total of 4 people there. :lol

When I went no one really showed any kind of emotion at all in the theater, so I stood up and punched the guy next to me in the face and shouted "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?"

thanks for the replies. Sure the movie is derivative (what isn't?) and employs cheap manipulation on occasion, but comparing it to Avatar? That's just low.

Just sayin'...:lol

I saw it in the theater. But there never is any audience participation/reaction around here, at least, I've never experienced any except for laughing during comedies.

I saw it opening weekend, and I remember the audience being rather sedate; no big reactions one way or another.

I also recall not being overly impressed with the film--I didn't dislike it, but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. I've since seen it on cable quite a few times, and I like it better each time I see it.

Now, something like Jaws, Alien, Raiders, Star Wars, and so on. Those were something to be in the audience for. Gladiator....well.....heck, Tombstone had better audience response.

I like Gladiator a whole lot. It's just not that kind of movie.

Saw it in the theater, saw the tractor tracks in the field of corn, saw the chemtrails too - spotted a bunch of anachronisms but my inner nitpicker didn't give a damn. He was too busy having a great time.

Haven't been able to watch it again on the small screen. Just doesn't have the vibe somehow.

Never saw it in the cinema, saw it twice on dvd......it has it's moments, but i cried both times at the end...NO MOVIE PUSHES ME AROUND LIKE THAT!!!!...(well yeah, they do....)

I can't watch it anymore due to a growing dislike for Crowe.....same thing is happening to me with Bale....he's really starting to pee me off....

That's what I am going to do if I ever meet Ridley, sucker-punch him and tell him "I WAS NOT ENTERTAINED!"

When I went no one really showed any kind of emotion at all in the theater, so I stood up and punched the guy next to me in the face and shouted "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?"

yeah the audience started cheering at the end when Cuba Gooding Jr was boxing and Oh wait wrong Gladiator

When I saw it in the theater the audience was mostly quiet, there were a few cheers during the first arena scene but otherwise crickets

I was actually managing a theater and saw it many times on the big screen. The audience was very enthusiastic about it, good vibe (though I don't much like the film myself, on my first two or three viewings I was pretty into it).

Ho hum reaction in the theatre when I saw it. It had its moments, but was holed below the waterline by Crowe when he wasn't fighting and by his helmet when he was. That helmet was the cheesiest phoniest thing I'd seen in the cinema for decades. Looked like it was made out of plastic and designed by a 14 year-old sword and sorcery fanboy who had never seen a Roman artifact in his life. If you don't want your pretty star's face to be obscured by a genuine-looking Roman helmet, then don't make films about gladiators - or at the very least, don't claim, as Scott did, to be making the most authentic Roman movie ever made. Or at least try to make something up that looks the faintest bit Roman, you know?
