there are a few threads here talking about which size fedora best fits Howard's (Chewie15's) newest Indy bust...

from what i have read, Howard used a Herbert Jones (size 58) fedora when sculpting the bust

i have also read that the 58 may be too small and a 59 or 60 may be a better fit

anyone out there with a resin bust (not adding hair to it) what size hat did you use?....i am going for the look from Raiders

i am considering the new www.hatsdirect.com "Federation 4" hat in a size 59 or 60

http://www.hatsdirect.com/federation/size.html

thanks in advance!

Well... You seem to have incorporated my opinions! Were I to "do over" I'd go 59.

I certainly did...:lol

all your posts on this topic in other threads have been really helpful....i just wanted to start a new thread to try and establish which size fedora from the different companies best fits this bust

i'm thinking the 59 is the way to go as well

thanks for the input

59 it is!...:thumbsup

it seems like most makers (HJ, Federation, etc) don't come bashed right?

is that a big deal?...easy to do?

i think an Adventurebuilt comes bashed in the "Raiders" style if you want, right? (but for double the money of a Fed)

so the size 59 is what i will do

i am leaning toward a fedora i won't have to bash

i looked at the HJ (hard to find?) and the new Fed4 but both need to be bashed, right?

i know that i can pick one up from steve at...

http://www.adventurebilthats.com/orderPrice.asp

...for a little more money

the question is, how big a deal is the bash?

i really don't mind paying a little more for a hat that i just put right on the bust without me screwing the bash up...:lol

thoughts?

thanks!

Todd from www.toddscostumes.com will bash a HJ any way you want

i finally called Todd today

the site said he was backordered on size 59 HJ hats, but he now has them in stock (at least the 59's)

i went ahead and ordered one with the "Raven bar" bash for an extra $20

i will post some pics with a review when it arrives

thanks guys for all the suggestions and help!

I think streetjudge79 has a great Indy replica with a great hat. Maybe you could ask him which one he purchased. He has a thread somewhere around here about his awesome build up! :thumbsup

EDIT: DOH! I just noticed he already replied to you! DOH!

i rec'd my HJ (size 59) from Todd's costumes last week

the bash left a bit to be desired but that's no big deal....it could have gotten beat around in shipping i guess....but yes, i realize the bash looks like crap

the fit of the 59 on Indy isn't that great to me...if you look at picture #3 you can see that the hat doesnt rest down on the back of the head, and it cant be pulled down too far without distorting the shape of the hat

i am thinking maybe i should have opted for the 60?...but would that make the rest of the hat look too big in proportion to the bust?

another quick question...it sure seems like these "Raiders" style hats (or maybe just the HJ) is way too tall to me...??

thoughts on the fit?

thanks

brad

Todd's HJ's are a bit floppy.
Do note that the hat probably has the Raiders turn, so make sure the pinch in the front is centered...this gives the hat a wonky look to the brim, but is more accurate. Curl up the sides a bit as they have gone flat in shipping. Just work it with your hands. And yes the hat was tall. Or dust it up...looks more like streets of cairo to me as is.
