Which Enterprise?

Im debating commissioning a artist to build me a PL Enterprise A. I also have a MR enterprise on preorder. Now the E-A is my FAVORITE ship and I have to pick either one as demanded by the wife. Both are going to be similar in price and the EA build up is going to be sweet as hell (TMP version). I wondering if I cancel the MR E I will be kicking myself in 5 years if they rocket in value as I could get someone way down the road to do the PL E but I would prefer to have it now. What do you guys think I should do?

If the A is your ship, then the A. I can't stand thinking of these things as investments, cuz if you just get a TOS for investement value, it probably won't mean as much to you over the long haul, and you're basically hoping for some bit of increased valuation and I don't think that's why you really want the ship.

You may get some question as to whether or not this is the right forum, may get moved to General or another.

Banking on a mass produced collectible as being an investment is like playing the stockmarket. You may win, you may not. No guarantees. Kind of like Star Wars figures. In 1977....when EVERY kid was ripping them out of the package...finding one mint on card 20 years later was a rarity. When the new SW figures came out...everyone was buying them as investments....and...well look what happened there.

Like posted above...if the A is your ship...then get the A. I buy pieces for my prop collection because I like them. Not for investments. I have a financial advisor when I need advice on that stuff.

If you love the E-A (and it is a beautiful ship) you will be very happy you did. And if it comes out 1/2 as nice as you are describing it...you will never regret it.

By rocketing in value I think he might mean it'll be even harder for him to buy one later.

In that regard, then, it would be better to get the TOS now and then commission the A on a future date when the wife is more amenable after you bust her for buying curtains you didn't need or whatever. ;)

Remember, nothing that ever comes in the mail was bought with cash. You traded for it. ;)

To me, if the Enterprise refit is your favorite, there wouldn't even be a question. I love that version of the E above all others- I really have no interest in the original series E. So it's an easy pick.

If you have someone in mine already for your commission, I'd really be interested in the details. I've seen some fantastic Enterprise build-outs here but it's never been clear who was building them for folks (or for how much). I really really would love to get my hands on one as well.

Slightly OT, but I LOVE that line. :lol

The Refit is a fav of mine too, but please only the TMP version, no bloody "A". :D

Maybe if I had TWO PL enterprises built up... one as the fresh, clean, irridescent fresh-from-drydock, all self-lighting bulbs working, magnificent TMP version, and the other as the banged up, holes in the saucer section, shes-a-survivor Trek 6 version (flying home to be decommissioned... the Alpha and Omega of her career if you will :D )

Yes I know that technically the TMP ship is the refurbished TV show Enterprise, and the -A is a different ship entirely... :lol

I say get the MR first because it will probably be harder to get due to inflated Ebay prices later on. You can ALWAYS commission someone to build you a 1701-A. ;)

My .02 cents.

I'd buy the MR TOS now and pick up a PL EA on ebay for $50. then I'd every once in a while start painting soda bottles until I had the aztec stuff down pat then build the sucker myself ;) The PL kit itself is not too hard to build - mostly straight forward stuff the gotcha is in painitng it. Buy the PL and practice painting for a couple of years then build it. She will have cooled off on the "you gotta pick one" by then ;)
