I would say it's just a trench coat, maybe called a duster depending on one's definition of the word. I don't know if you can find one in that type of material, looks pretty heavy duty, but maybe try thrift stores. That collar design is pretty out of the ordinary as well. I've seen a lot of film coats modified to have a collar like that, but never seen one for sale. Maybe try to find a pattern and make it yourself?

Also search using the term civilian frock coat. During the latter half of the 19th century, that's what they were called. If you were to search without the word civilian, you'll get mostly civil war era uniform coats, also called frock coats.
Also, very Tombstone movie-ish. Try that, too.

I third the Frock Coat. Problem is you'll probably have trouble finding a full length one. Most commercially available ones are only knee length. Try Gentleman's Emporium or one of the other western/victorian sites.

The length could be a problem, I agree. THe only thing I found here in Iceland was a East German officer coat in the only surplus store in Iceland. Thrift stores were a no go. I will try Frock Coat search.

I was searching for ideas for Jack the Ripper costume for Halloween, and I have tailcoats and tall hat. But then I ran into this pic and thought cool, The Ripper gone slasher. I´m also thinking about adding some steampunk to it see how that comes out. Do something different this year, was thinking about making the entrance to my house like an old East End theme.

Thx

Yeah. I picked up a pair of frontier trousers from them a couple weeks back for $20.00 less than every other site sells them. They do have great prices.

Thedarkangel site had a great coat, but a bit pricey for me.

This is what I found here at home, a friend of mine is a professional costume semstress and works for the national TV and other also for the national theater and more. And she said she could mod the jacket. The jacket is about 30$ at the surplus store.

I´m gonna try to get this pretty right, considering the time I have to make it. But it will be pretty cool when I´m done with it.

Where did you find the figure for your example? He's pretty cool

Google search, I typed in Jack The Ripper and among those pics Google found was this one. When I saw it I thought, this will be my costume for Halloween.

Thats a WW2 German M36 Greatcoat and they have french cuffs, like the reference picture you posted. You can usually find them on ebay.

I bought the East German greatcoat and scored some cool French army boots since 1960.

This is what I´ve been making to be played in the entrance to my home, I´m gonna make an 1888 east end london walkway, with walls and everything, maybe fog also.

It´s not finished but tell me what you think.
