Where to find clear plastic tubing for display?

Hi all,

I'm relatively new the board and this is my first post/ question. I hope someone can help me. Let me say first that I've seen a lot of things on this forum that make my jaw drop in awe. There are immensely talented people here and I am honored to be part of this community.

I'm looking to purchase clear, plastic (acrylic or poly) tubing to make cylinder display enclosures for 12" - 18" figures. The wall thickness is unimportant because it really just needs to keep dust and elements off of the figure.

It also needs to be clear, not foggy. Clear enough to see the figure displayed nicely. I don't mind cheap plastic as long as it's for the most part clear.

I've seen material used in packaging in retail stores that was exactly what I was looking for, but how do you find out what it is?. I believe my wife saw a curling iron packaged in a cylinder style clear box. Really thin wall, but crystal clear.

Either way, it's purpose would be mostly to keep dust off and present the figure nicely. I plan to make my own bases and top caps. The key is cost. I plan after making my own cases to make others to ofer to other collectors, so I'm looking to go CHEAP. Display cases are so expensive and I'm trying to come up with a less expensive alternative.

One last thing, I suppose I would need to buy it in length and cut it myself to size. It will be mostly used for 12" but there are some other sizes I'd like to try and I need to be able to determine the length myself.

OH, minimum inside diameter of 5-6 inches.

Thanks all for reading this and thanks in advance for any help or points in the right direction.

Plastics suppliers do most anything, tubes included. I buy plastics from Kel-Tech here in Tacoma. If it's plastic they make it. Just hunt around your area a bit, you'll find what you need.

The clear stuff you see in retail packaging is [usually] PVC, and is pretty cheap if you can find someone supplying it, it is most likely going to be in sheet form, as many manufacturers want the ability to form it to make it unique to their product. Another option from a plastic supply place is PETG, with the last choice [only due to cost] is Acrylic [plexyglass or lexan, or polycarbonite] but you will pay lots more for these last three....
