Whats the best foam to use to Build Armor ??? I have ordered some eva Foam Squairs. Just wondering what everyone is using.

People are generally using EVA foam in varying thickness.

I'm using 10-12mm thick EVA interlocking mats for a Mass Effect armor build. Most foam Iron Mans you see are probably a 6mm thick EVA foam. Those can come in sheets or interlocking floor mats.

I use the rolls of 2mm foamies from craft stores for most large pieces. For 3d detailing and for stiffer areas, I use the smaller 4mm sheets.

I seal them with watered-down PVA white glue, and stiffen it if I need to with a layer of plain cotton muslin cloth pasted onto the inside with watered-down PVA.

I like my stuff to be super lightweight.

THanks for the help guys the mats i ordered are 1/2 in thick i think thats 11 mm i have found some super thin sheets but nothing inbetween where do you guys get your foam ?

I purchased my last batch of 1/2 inch mats from Harbor Freight on a great sale, but I think that was their clearance of the items. They don't have them on their site anymore but I haven't gone back into the shop to look. I've seen them at Target but they were much to expensive for my taste. My local Walmart didn't seem to have any, or at least the people there couldn't help me find them.

The thinner foam is available at hobby stores like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. And of course, the internet has a good number of options available. Only downside there is shipping.

There's 1/2 inch thick squares that are 20x20" at Sears near the tool chests & automotive section, I think 6 piece pack is 20 dollars.

There's 1/4 inch thick rolls that are 46x93" at Big Lots for 18 dollars in their automotive section. (Note, the diamond pattern is on the outside so you have to flatten it for at least a few hours & roll it so the diamonds are not showing)

The thin foamies (1mm?) are at Michaels, in single colored squares or packs of colored squares. Michaels also has the thin foam in a roll for about 8 dollars, its a good size, maybe 3ft by 6ft

The smaller sheets are in 2mm and 4mm.

Ah ok, thanks for that. I hadn't measured the roll I got a while back, & Michaels website has no dimensions in the description for the rolls. Description is "This large Foam Roll is ideal for groups and classrooms. Foam can be used for all types of crafting projects."

Well they're right about that---with enough glue and enough foamies, you can make absolutely anything. ;)

I've always wanted a 1:1 X Wing. :love

THANKS for all of the help guys. I hopefully will be finishing up some projects soon (My magneto Helmet And Captian America Shields) Then i am going to start something with the foam. Maybe just a Foam Cap Helmet or the batman Cowl.:)
