what happens to pieces used in canned films?

not all films make it to theaters, but those films must have had some sort of production

so what happens to that stuff? and how would you confirm it if you did find a piece?

There are many factors at play so nothing can be lumped into a correct answer. Rentals and crew "kits" are standard fare. A prop master thats been around for a spell can prop many films out of their existing kit or know how to be creative enough with a budget to work in items not within the budget. You may also have instances with interdepartmental cooperation and favors. Much of the time bulk lots go into storage. At times the "production" defaults on storage fees or simply abandons said storage.
