Weta announces VERY limited edition LOTR swords made by Peter Lyon himself

Here's a shot the swords at SDCC:

According to the sign next to Anduril the price is an even 6K.
A bit out of my price range at the moment & as much as I would kill to have a Glamdring I guess I'll have to pass this time around :(
If they continue this line & make some of the other swords from the series, say... Herugrim for instance, I'd be all over that!
What they should do if they do continue, is make a run of Nazgul swords & limit the number to nine!
Tell me that wouldn't be the coolest thing ever! I dare you!

Too rich for my blood...but...I would love to see how they make the others. The video for Sting was amazing and I really, more than ever, appreciate the time and energy that went into that one sword. Beautiful!

JEEZUS ******!!! What do you do, and how can I get in on it??? :eek

I'm a Global Programs Manager for one of the big 3. What I do is pretty niched in the industry and not a lot of companies have adopted it. Though the ones that have pay a premium for it because it saves them a lot of money. Millions of dollars a year.

Agreed. Watch the video and what goes into making Sting -- that has to be at least 40-60 hours of work. At $100ish an hour, suddenly the price doesn't seem so crazy.

The hourly rate to work on my M3 is north of $150.

I'm an "upmarket" guy. Always going to be impressed with this stuff over mass-produced stuff stamped out in a Chinese factory. I understand every collector can afford differing levels of quality, but why wouldn't every LOTR fan want this, the very best? I'd happily trade every UC product off my shelves for one of these.

I will be getting Strider's sword, definitely.

Hi Riskbreaker, just saw your post regarding the P. Lyon sword collection.
Do you own one of those amazing swords? Planning to order Glamdring as soon as it appears (hopefully soon!!). Btw. I absolutely agree with you, highest quality products are rare these days, and worth every dollar you have to pay for them. I am "upmarket" buyer myself, as I appreciate the great work, all those professionals do to create unique props and collectibles.

Given the fact that Weta is now making all sorts of props and of course swords for The Hobbit, I doubt the Master Swordsmith Collection will be active again for a while yet.

I do and they're amazing. Absolutely worth every penny. Still can't get over how light Strider's sword is. Makes the UC stuff feel and look like cheap wall-ornamentation.

Looking forward to Glamdring myself...

...must be a great feeling, having Strider's sword in hands. UC, especially the Museum Coll. Swords are not bad (I got Sting myself) , but there must be worlds or galaxies between them and the work of Peter Lyon. I managed to save Glamdring #11 for me these days. -> It's already SOLD OUT today!! That was fast

Ahh, congratulations, EmynMuil!

Like you, I just managed to reserve Glamdring #13 before they were all sold out. Funny, Weta increases the edition size by 5, and the sword still sells out faster than both Strider's sword and Anduril :lol

Now, the question everyone wants to know the answer to: which finish did you go for?

EDIT: And boy was I wrong in my previous post in this thread :lol

Thanks and congratulations also to you. I am so much looking forward to the day when UPS is going to ring the doorbell :rolleyes

It was clear to me, that Glamdring would sell out that fast. Especially for the last 5 available edition numbers.

Well, the final decission for the finish is not made yet, but at the moment I am staying with the Satin finish. The guys from WetaNZ promised to send me some pics in New Year to compare the different styles. What finish are you going to have for your Glamdring?

You might be right about the workload they have to handle now at WetaNZ. I guess the process for "The Hobbit" is their and also OUR priority, so I don't mind waiting a bit longer for my sword. Let's hope, the film(s) will blow us all away as the LOTR 1-3 did. :eek

Yes, The Hobbit is something I'm eagerly anticipating :)

Since I'm a weathering nut, I'm having the authentic finish on my Glamdring, so we'll both have to post pics when we get ours to see how different they look (and they'll be equally beautiful, I am sure!).

Wow those are breath taking, and I thought the UC ones were cool, lol.
So cool, accuracy is so key, always!

If I could have a sword collection of one, that would be the one I would have. Just astonishing what goes into the craftsmanship of such a piece.

God I would have loved to have gotten an Anduril. I know it's wrong, but the fact that some of you can actually afford these makes me jealous/envious.

There is just no way I can drop that kind of dough, even though these are absolutely exquisite pieces and are sure to appreciate in value.
