WARLOCK / Witch compass (found item?)

Curious, has anyone done any research on the witch compass from Warlock? It looks really familiar to me; something nautical about it.

Please post if you have some info.

Thanks!

Wow is that a blast from the (not so distant) past. One of the funniest bad movies I've seen. I can't remember the compass though. Any screen caps anywhere?

Ry,

I have been doing research on it and am pretty far with the 3d model. It looks like the box is found as well as the closing clasp and the brass corners. The glass vials are probably antiques (haven't been able to fins them. The brass rings look to be machined, the engraved ring is custom as well.

Currently drawing the raised engravings to add to the large ring.

The main compass ring was made from 2 thinner etched brass pieces attached to a thicker brass ring, the bottle was made with epoxy, flowcoated over a small glass bottle. Your pointer is missing the tail. It also has a small plastic cup formed into the pointers heart shaped point.
here is an image from the company that made it.

I may be able to get a full set of original etched parts, big ring (both sides) inlay piece for the box and pointer.
Whats it worth?

The 'What's it worth' question is really a tough one to answer in a friendly exploration thread.

It's not worth much at all if Marc and/or I dig in and simply make the thing.

BUT, it would be great to see some resin pulls of the main ring. If you come up with something you can always toss it in the junkyard and vibe the interest that way.

I'm still convinced it's a found item. Probably just a tricked out celestial globe. If so, someone will find it.

Well unconvince yourself, ;) The only found bit is the corners of the box. The rest was custom fabricated for the film. ( I'm not talking about resin pulls, I am referring to brass pieces like the ones used to make the original.) But go ahead and make away.

WOW, nice edge there on ya buddy! I don't mind standing corrected, but I'm not going to proclaim, "Master Blaster Runs Bartertown" for a little assistance.

Anyway, guys. Have a google and take a look at Armillary spheres, terrestrial globes & equatorial spheres.
Marc, give me a shout this week.

Sorry to offend, No one has asked you to proclaim anything, but as the guy who built these for the film, I'm pretty sure I know a thing or two about it and I thought you may be interested in doing this the correct way. But I see you are an "Expert", sorry I didn't know.

Why do you feel answering this question is so difficult? Why do you feel talking about worth or money is "UN-freindly"?
Now that where not freinds anymore do you have an idea what it's worth?:confused

I somehow felt you started with the snobish ahole attiude with statements like this and are a bit ungreatfull for a bit of help on something you asked for info on. As making these pieces will cost me some $$, I thought, getting an idea of how much this was worth to you would give me an sense of if it was worth getting out the original artwork and acid machining some pieces for you. I guess not. :rolleyes

If you wanna know if people are willing to pay what you want, you could put up a intrest thread in the junkyard.
It came out as rude when you asked it here, and im guessing that was not your intencion.

Everybody is a hipocrit. There are some extremely talented people on this board, and from a strictly spectator standpoint, you came off as really snobbish with a "i'm the only one who could do this right" attitude. Maybe you should have mentioned that you worked on the one for the film and offered your advice when you origionally posted in this thread, rather than starting an arguement and bringing it up only now seemingly as an afterthought. :rolleyes

Guys, guys, maybe we could start this again from scratch.

This is a seriously cool prop and I'd really like to see it happen in some form or another.

We're lucky enough to have Imgill here and willing to talk about the original, so let's hear what he has to say. I think this could be a good opportunity to get authentic parts for a perfect, high end version, but also, if he's willing, maybe we could wrangle a way to do more affordable resin parts (maybe plated or something) for us "po' boys" too.

I would be totally interrested in the engraved dial in brass from the original artwork and some dimensions for the box etc.

Wow, this thread reads like an emo roller coaster. First I :) then I :confused then I :lol then I :cry.

Internet communication for the lose.

So can I summarize too?

Interest in a neat prop and discussion of reproduction.

FX guy involved in creating the original prop enters scene incognito and asks what potential reproductions would be worth.

Gifted members who have done great projects with fantastic outcomes, respond, 'Hard to say, because we are capable of doign reproductions with a little elbow grease and some reasearch"

FX guy pulls off the mask, haha! "I'm the one that made the original and you didn't know it, or give me an estimate on what you'd pay for something you were working on recreating, Die!"

Truly one of the weirdest threads I've seen here and it looks like it's mostly based on the fact that written internet posts aren't the most fabulous means of discussion / communication.

Carry on.
