Warhammer 40k Spacewolf MK12 Runic Armour

Hi all, so i've had a few stop start projects of late but I decided on this for an upcoming convention in september. Used to collect this army so thought why not!?

Its a foam build and going as full scale as possible, I'm aiming for 8ft and as wide as I can go all with in practical reason of course!

After this, I want to build a full scale set of terminator armour. I'm using this project as a way of learning whats possible at the sizes required but still remain functional, I'm also using this as a template so I can see for the terminator what sort of sizes are correct/incorrect so i don't make the same mistake twice.

Overall so far i'm happy with the build, the shoulders however I am not. They are the right size just being foam they aren't the right shape so I'm pepping those at the present and gonna hit them with bondo soon.
I've built some stilts but upon reflection they aren't right for the build so they are being rebuilt to be more like painters stilts, also the jet pack mount needs to be modified before I mount the jetpack.

So heres the pictorial evidence of my work so far, more as It comes and feed back is always appreciated :)

Not a bad start, I just worry that you've made the chest too small. It looks like it fits you quite well, and you clearly aren't 8 feet tall. Try searching around for other people's marines on here to see the comparison.

Yeah I know what you mean buddy. Tbh I have considered rebuilding that chest part a little bigger so its taller and a bit wider, but I don't want to add too much width coz that would hinder the practicality. Mind you a suit like this isn't very practical :p
It took all of a couple hours to knock that chest up so it wouldn't be much hardship to make another. Actually desicion made, I'm making a new chest part :) will save modding the jet pack part too!

Hah, don't trash it though, it would work pretty great for a 6ft marine, or a scout marine. Check out this thread, I love his proportions and foam work http://www.therpf.com/f24/sylgians-40k-space-marine-wip-179602/

Yeah I saw that build, it's awesome. I won't scrap it but not sure what ill do with it. I am going to rebuild that part, thankfully it's only going to be a couple hour set back but otherwise no hardship :)
just got to make sure it's ready for September :)

This is going to be an epic build!
Inspiring me to try to make one as my next project.

Thanks buddy, always good to be able to inspire others in some way :)

Thanks buddy! I will check it out, i've taken a few files from that forum already I'm currently searching for some files for a terminator torso.

SOOOOOO after sleeping on it and needing to rebuild the torso part I thought what the heck! (actually heck was slightly stronger worded but anyway), I'm going to jump into the terminator build. I regretted doing a space marine after visiting games workshop because (after parting with some money and buying a codex) I remembered how much more awesome terminator armour is! So instead of rebuilding a marine torso i'm going to rebuild it as terminator armour, fortunately the cod, abs and girdle will all fit a full size terminator torso so theres not much rebuilding to be done and i'm going to crack on with that now, not sure if i'll scratch build or use a template just yet but tbh it won't be hard to scratch build :)
I was even considering building the terminator torso around the existing one that way I can recycle, have extra strength in the build and save time. This will all be decided shortly, but for now thanks for watching and more soon :D

Sorry for the double post, so here is a lot of paper taped together and cut to a shape but this is the chest plate or will be for my replacement torso.

Updates as they happen :)

Right so I've descended from the loft and ascended on to these:

The V2 stilts/raiser platforms.
So a couple of things, being that high isn't natural, it's scary, I crapped my pants, I took two steps then wobbled a bit before deciding. They are being reduced in size by a foot making me around 7ft not 8.
On the upside they at least worked!!!!

I think the V3 will also have a wider and longer foot plate too for the extra stability.

Side note please if your building a stilt at home do it safely, so the opposite of how I have!

Also heres my template for the twin wolf head design on the torso

So heres the V3, it needs some tweaks. I'm going to put the post with the leg strap at the back as it currently digs into the side of my shin badly and i'm going to cut down the sole of the boot to be a little more slim line as they are like walking in flippers at the moment.
Otherwise, THEY BLOODY WORK!!!!! i'm really chuffed, so a few tweaks and i'll build the boot and shin around it :)

So I've advanced along and come up with the shell of the torso.
Here's it compared to the old chest and side profile

Thanks for looking :)

loooks good, my only worry is that it will be too big from side to side, and your arms ill either need to grow alot longer or youll ahve to make animatronic extensions, if this isnt a concern, then disregard my prattling on, i cant wait to see how this turns out now

I did think to myself I may have over done it this time but despite its massive size it's width is still practical to the current human physiology :)
But if it turns out I am a little too wide I have ideas for animatronic arms, but shouldn't be necessary for that :)

cool cool i ahve been looking online for radio controlled hands and came across a video for a set using xbee radios and they look pretty cool, im trying to get more info on them and am thinking of using them to make a full size suit that actually has finger control, im gonna keep an eye on your build, even though its the void pups, its still awesome :devil

Thankyou :)
I bet the controlled hands will be pricey!
Void pups? I've been out of the warhammer scene for ages only went to games workshop bout a month back and bought a codex for reference. So much has changed since I played back about 15 years ago. I'm actually building a wolf guard of Bjorn Stormwolfs company.

Subscribing. Looks excellent so far! It's nice to see a suit like this in the flood of iron men. My only advice is to make the helmet oversized to match the armor, the only other build I saw with the height correct had a comparatively tiny head.

Also, isn't current armor Mk VIII? That's the model with a neck guard, Mk VII is the majority of the marines you get in GW kits.

Thankyou sir, I am toying with the idea of the helmet. Not sure if I want one or to go without but thankfully I am blessed with a large head so I could do either tbh. But I do like the idea of having the helmet for the voice changer. I would like to turn up at a con and find some of these iron men. I could see quite a funny picture in the making.

As for what MK it is I'm not sure about the terminator armour but the SM armour I started originally is definitely MK XII. Says so in the new codex but I've been absent from the warhammer world for 15 years roughly now, a lot has changed when I went back to games workshop.

Thanks for looking

void pups is my name for space wolves void=space pups=wolves.dogs lol im a chaos player, have been since '89 so calling imperial marines by their names isnt something im used to in my old group we made nicknames for our armies and opponents, i liked void pups so it stuck in my head lol anyway. yea the rc hands will be pricey but if i can get it all figured out it will be tons cheaper than paying someone else to do it for me not to mention how cool will it be to have a full size 9 ft marine that has manual dexterity to the point of you not having to come out of costume to pick things up. honestly if it works my plan is to go shopping in the mall and al mart in the armour but thats at least a couple years down the line

lol makes sense :p
I will warn you, my original stilts had me at 8-9ft and that scared the hell out of me. And i'm not afraid of heights, the nice thing with this terminator armour is I can use the stilt to get me to 7ft and the torso does the rest because of the box part over the top of the head.
