Warhammer 40000 Space Marines

Great Chaplain helmet!

Smooth out the double chin and have it come to a narrower square jaw and you'll fit the models and the illustrations that are out there.

Thanks all for your comments and suggestions:

I've elongated the nose, rounded out the chin a bit, and added a little more thickness to the brow ridge:

I also did a bit of work to get rid of the "smile" look. Mostly I made the mouth a lot narrower and cut it back quite a bit:

The teeth aren't anything like done at this point. I just scribed some lines as placeholders to give myself an idea of the final look. In the end, the teeth will probably lean forward a bit and there will be a slight overbite. I also need to improve the symmetry of the jaw line:

I'm definitely feeling better about this one than I did yesterday.

As always, comments and criticisms welcome.

My 2 cents:

I think the teeth need to be bigger, and more vicious looking, with a snarl instead of looking like he's posing for a toothpaste advertisement...

Thats really amazing work, remember there is no "set" design for these as the story behind them is that the armour is all relics passed down through the chapter and customised by each wearer - yes i was a 40K player, nearly ended up working for GW at their head offices in nottinghm U.K at one point

Loving it so far!

is it just me, or does the right (viewer perspective) hand side eyebrow look a little taller? like hes raising his eyebrow?

reminds me a little of the fallout ranger helmet i made, with that helmet cam!

oh and Hey Saberfreak

Just about there:

More snarling:

What's more, he looks great in careful lighting:

I'm thinking I'm just about done with the sculpt. One more evening worth of fine tuning (I'm noticing symmetry problems with the cheekbones and eyebrows) and then I'll start molding it up. Thankfully I've got plenty of silicone kicking around.

I've been seeing some pics of that one floating around. This one is interesting:

Looking at the parts laid out, it's clear that the elbows, wrists, and hands don't move. It also looks like the wearer sees through someplace other than the eyes in the helmet (maybe the mouth grill or the neck?). Either way, it's got me thinking I need to revisit my plans for making a full-size costume instead of a people-sized one.

thats frikkin fantastic thor. once again, you pull out some INCREDIBLE work.

i'm looking at beginning a mecha costume based on something found on deviantart, once i hear from the mech designer, will be something quite similar to a space marine i think.

this is so cool. i love seeing your stuff.

White primer

I'll be going for a bone-colored primary color with plenty of weathering when I'm done. I'll be away for the weekend though, so there won't be any real updates.

Meanwhile, PM me if you'd like a raw cast copy of this helmet.

Hey guys, amazing work here. Me and my brother are beginning to work on a Commissar and Techpriest duo. Still working on paper, but where we are hitting a wall so far is the techpriest backpack. We have supplies for the servo-arm, but the backpack/powerplant -not unsimmilar from the marine powerplant- is where we are unsure. We currently are planning on making a wire skeleton for it and filling it with an expanding foam. Only problem is we do not know of a product that we can use that is economical to fill a backpack that is 3.5' by 2', can withstand wear and tear, and is sculpt-able with sanders and dremels. anyone have any ideas or products to help us out?

Why not make the skeleton, or frame, out of really thin (like 0.5mm) aluminum angle strips, riveted together, and then covered using styrene?

That would give you a strong, light and weather-proof base to add the rest of the bits and bobs onto.

That's how I made my SoB backpack, except I used mounting board instead of styrene, since weather proofing is not a concern for me.

Very nice Chaplain helmet. I would imagine that one of the prime difficulties with 40k costumes would be the scale-up from 28mm mini to 1:1 replica, is that the case?

I'd imagine that it might also be tricky to get a head/body inside of the various parts and still getting the right look.
