War Machine - Done - For now

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

Been a little slack over the last week or so, got my 3d printer up and running so have been playing with that to look at the bits that i'll be making with it.

things like the pivot plates, arc reactor etc i'll probably print, and other detail bits

few things its spat out so far, mainly from thingiverse

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

DUDE!!! You have a 3-d printer! Cool. Does that helmet you printed fit? Or if it doesn't fit, print it in chunks and put it together and make it fit?

Great looking build nice and clean. Now you know your going to get a bunch of questions about the 3D printer??

That was actually the plan.

or atleast i'd like to attempt it.

Made most of the Cod Piece over the weekend, still need to make some adjustments, but its another piece to tick off.

Also made some modifications to the abs, was having a few issues with the chest/back piece lifting too high and the abs slipping out, so i extended them higher so they tuck much nicer.

Also decided to have a crack at 3d printing a helmet.

Started with the Chin piece, which came out alright, needs to be cleaned up but showed promise.
went to print the face plate, got 1/2 way through and the nozzle clogged, so now i've gotta clear that :p

I was using a relatively low poly model for the print, looking back i should probably have smoothed it first :p

but i can always treat this one as more of a proof of concept.

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

Either that's a really small helmet, or a gigantic arc reactor.:lol. Looks like you have a full tank of motivation! I know you have one arm built, but an arm that's scaled too big will work better than if its too small. Finish the suit! One more for team WM!

Hahaha.

Yeah the Iron Man helmet is a tad small... but i wanted a mini helmet :p

Both arms are done, basically just the legs to do now.
then onto detailing & painting

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

Finished the War Machine helmet, although its a bit small.

no big deal as it'll make a nice display piece once i tidy it up :D

Started doing some sealing using the PVA Glue method, test Primed and Painted 1 or 2 parts which have come up pretty good.

Finished off the Cod piece and decided to attach to the abs, was just too hard to get it to sit right otherwise.

more photos soon :D

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

nice work guess ill getstarted on mine if i want it done by the premiere

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

Got around to making up one of the Thigh's tonight, stupidly i didnt change the scale, and thus its too small :p

glad i didnt proceed with the other one and the shins as i first planned :p

will rescale and try again tomorrow!

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

another update!

Built another thigh after scaling it up a little, seems to be a better fit, maybe a little big but i can adjust that if required.

so i proceeded with the shin and they seem to work well together.

Need to work out the best method for connecting the 2.

Also got the arc reactor ready for finishing :)

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

Gotta use what i can find :p

I can get gray matts, but only in 1/2"

the purple/pink ones are 8mm, and quite dense so they've been really good to work with.

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

more colours! :p

Got both legs done now, along with the boots.

did a quick test fit and all seems ok.

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

not a lot to report, moved house last week so i put it on hold until i was setup in the new place.
have 3d printed a few smaller minigun parts, but i still need to work out how i'm going to beef up the torso to handle the minigun weight.

just over a month until my deadline :p

Re: War Machine - Keep me motivated build.

How easy is it to use the 3d printer and is it worth it? What was your cost for the printer, I know they run from $700-$1500. I'm kind of thinking of getting one for myself.

What scaler did you use on the legs?

I think Standard scale on the files i was using was 1.9??
I think i went 2.1

i'm 6'5

the 1.9 scale didnt even fit my thigh, let alone be long enough.

I got a solidoodle 2, but the solidoodle 3 is out now with a larger build volume.

its pretty straight forward, helps if you've got some 3d modeling experience or are willing to learn.

mine was $700 delivered with 2 spool's of plastic, still on my 2nd roll.
you're obviously limited to the build volume with what you can build, so you end up cutting pieces up to fit and re assembling after its printed.

bigger build volume is great, but normally means more wastage
