War Machine (by NAS) "Picture Heavy"

Some of my older friends in the prop community know that I have been a huge Iron Man fan ever since I was kid. Long before the extremis or the movie suit, I loved the work of such artists as Don Heck, Jack Kirby, Bob Layton, Mark Bright, Sean Chen and John Romita Jr.

Thanks to some friends on making that dream a reality. Allow me to present their version of War Machine (military version of Iron Man).

Below are my pictures of my initial fitting. I will work with others on making adjustments and I am not wearing the gun pod that they sent me. My thanks to ID1113, Goffcorp and another friend of mine with their time and patience on this trial run.

The suit unpacked.

So as you can see, I kind of resemble the Hasbro Mark 2 figure or some other artist's interpretations of War Machine minus the weapon pods.

My first hopeful public event with this will be a Shriners hospital visit on Halloween day. For ease of getting around and not to scare kids, I will probably go with a more simplified look. As I get more experience in wearing the suit and as it's refined, I will add additional details.

I wouldn't simplify it if I were you. The reason kids like War Machine is because of his giant guns!

Aren´t you a little short for a.... "war machine"?

jk, looking great so far!
And I´ll double the comment about adding the guns...DO IT :cool

Nice costume you have there man!! Can you tell us how the front and back shin part is put together (straps, velco)? Thanks man. Again...nice suit!!

Looking good ! I´d say you should do a few adjustments, i.e. have the chest armor go higher under the helmet, hence shortening the neck, the same with the arm and shoulder armour, they have to go higher up. The upper thighs have to go higher as well, stretching the legs optically.

That armour is fantastic !

LOVE It!!!

Does the new iron man have the
Tri-angular Arc Reactor??

Close up pics?

What are you wearing underneath for an undersuit?

How is the armour held on? Strap system?

Tell us more!

Nice, Chuey!!! I LOVE the paint color. I wonder what paint they used for that?

Bring out the gun pods! ;)

That looks really great! All Iron Man suits should use automotive paint. The paint colors are perfect.

Holy Smokes! Looks fantastic Mark. The suit is, in fact, as impressive as you've described it.

Is it resin? I know most of the NAS stuff is. I would use some foam in between the moving parts. Black stick on stuff. Save on the scratches, chips and wear and tear.

I can say from experience its brittle. :confused

I would tweek the mount system as well. Looks to me like the thighs need to come up, the chest and back as well.

This will look great once dialed all in. :thumbsup

Well, I did my first public event in the suit by doing a visit at a local Shriners hospital with fellow 501st garrison members on Halloween day. The visit went very well. We took took pictures, signed autographs and interacted with those present. Many of the child patients were dressed in a variety of costumes, some of them including Star Wars and superheroes.

My thanks to ID1113 and Goffcorp on helping me with my suit to make it wearable for the hospital visit. The plan is to look at other visual and functional improvements in time for Christmas service events.

Below are some sample pictures from my camera that one of the photographers took. Once Shriners gives clearance on the rest, I will post a link to the gallery.

ID1113 also debuted his classic comic style Col. Nick Fury. Here he is with one of our garrison members dressed up as Captain America.

My thanks to Bret, id1113, for making modifications to my suit in time for the 2010 San Francisco Wondercon. He added a unit for my head, a missile pod and a mini-gun. I'll let him explain what he did. Below are some pictures from the convention. Additional changes will hopefully be made in time for the 2010 SDCC.
