Aww, thanks for all the lovely posts - it's lovely to see so many people enjoying it and taking an interest. This whole project has always been about creating something that everyone can enjoy, so it really means a lot - thanks
@piehead
Ah Ian my friend. You know better than most the in's and out's of this journey and it's been an absolute pleasure to have you there helping me along throughout.
just watched the deathly hallows mate... (not my fave potter movie it has to be said), you seen voldy's hands ?
You're ahead of me there then mate - I still haven't seen it yet.
Ironically, I probably won't get to see it until it's out on DVD due to us having the kids and I think we've used up our babysitting allowance for the immediate future.
I really hope they release it on DVD before the next one comes out or I'll be really scuppered! lol (Wonder if WB fancy giving us a private showing? lol)
ya know this has me thinking, maybe i could pull of a mad eye moody complete with animatronic eye piece... i kinda have the build of brendon gleeson and contacts who worked on the make up for advice ....yeah thats me a porky dude.
That would be awesome! I know of somewhere that makes some pretty cool Madeye coats so I could point you in their direction if you're interested
@Westies14
What would you say the prosthetic project has cost, if you don't mind sharing that kind of info?
No, I dont mind sharing at all.
At the moment, I haven't totaled it up so I dont honestly know the final figure. I'm not "minted" by any means, and my original budget was increadibly tight at about £600 all in....
..... oh, what a naive fool I was lol
Seriously though, When I did my preliminary research I'd got quotes for many of the materials from a company in the USA. I checked in advance if they'd ship to the UK and they said they would - long story short, when it came to it, they said they couldn't - by that time I'd already spent a load on supplies over here and the costs of the remaining bits effectively doubled.
Had they have been honest from the beginning, I'd have known the costs would have been significantly higher so I'd have never started the project. Hey ho.
Anyway, you can double that figure easily.... I still haven't plucked up the courage to work out the exact figure, but it's easily in excess of £1,200 - £1,400.
I'd say about £600 - £800 of that is prosthetics stuff.
However, as with everything, you learn by your mistakes - my 1st lifecast was £150 - I wouldn't use bodydouble again, so that's a big saving right away.
Similarly, I over ordered about another £60 worth of chemicals.
I also probably used more quantities than I needed to of Gelcoat, etc so probably could save another £50 or so just through more experience.
Piehead's estimate of £400 - £600 sounds good to me if I retrospectively applying what I've learnt so far so if you keep that in mind as a rough ballpark you shouldn't be far off (depending what you're planning to make obviously

).
@TheLMAN
I wish I could make something like that !
Seriously, that's exactly what I'd have thought if I'd have seen this a couple of years ago. I was completely new to all this and you have to learn somewhere, so
never feel you can't do it - if I can, anyone can! (seriously! lol)
@Eveningarwen
I don't know if you ever just looked at what you were doing and thought "forget this" but I know I probably would have lol
Ah, there were many a time like that! lol
Especially when things were going wrong. Unfortunately it was one of those things where so much had already been spent it would have been a complete waste to just stop, so I didn't really have much of an option other than to stick with it. I try not to think about the costs as I tend to go as pale as voldy lol
