Vietnam era M16A1 Scratchbuilt- Vietnam zombie prop

Been kinda stagnant for a while, but with Halloween coming up, I got motivated to put together another weapon build. I'll be rehashing my Vietnam zombie costume (seen here: http://www.therpf.com/f24/68-comic-vietnam-meat-grinder-zombie-dragoncon-2012-version-121494/) for Halloween, but figured it needed something new to go along with it this year.
For now, I just have one starting pic and the rest are finished. I'll add some WIP pics later. The whole construction is sintra plastic and PVC pipe. I have a few things I plan on modifying, mainly the magazine. And still have to weather it a bit, but its basically done.

I admire the work but its funny that you would make this in an era of Airsoft replicas.

True, Airsofts are definitely more detailed and accurate, but still relatively expensive for a mere costume prop. I had all the materials to make this already, so other than some time and a can of paint, it cost nothing. Plus, I get the satisfaction of building it, which to me, is the main reason for doing it. I started making prop weapons before Airsoft were available, and the toy industry had stopped making replicas that were too realistic (and not molded in neon colors), after numerous kids were shot by cops, so I guess i've just continued. And, although this one doesn't, many of the prop weapons I make double as flasks or beer holders, which come in great at conventions or parties. Well done sir your skills are far Superior to mine.

Where can you get solid chunks of Sintra? I'd like to try and make a Thompson M1A1 to with my Fallout New Vegas costume.

Beautiful job! Love the fact that you have the selector switch set to full auto. Looking forward to the WIP piccies.

Thanks for the comments. Always nice to see your work appreciated.

That's the RPF spirit!

Nice work.

"I get the satisfaction of building it"

Now that's heart.

Thanks guys! That's one of the best things I have received from this community, is the drive to create things, even when there are easier options. And my best efforts are slight in comparison to you guys making full size working Batmobiles, Iron Man armors and computerized R2D2's, etc. But seeing all these incredible builds, keeps making me try harder the next time.

Well, as far as I know, 26mm (1") is the thickest sintra they make, and I have little access to that where I work. We use some 13mm and a lot of thinner, so there are scraps left over. I have to contact cement numerous layers together to get the desired thicknesses I need, then cut the parts from that.
As for the Tommy gun, here is my unfinished version, made the same method as the M16 and my other builds. When I complete it, I'll start a thread with WIP pics.

This is the beginning after all major parts were cut.

The basic building is done. Just need to add trigger and some detail, as well as metalize the parts a bit. As for the barrel, I couldn't figure out how to simulate the venting/ribbing that should be on this version, so I left it plain.

The drum mag is hollow and opens. I figure I'll put in a few clips to hold a couple mini-bottles for parties and conventions!

Nice Tommy gun dude. I have an airsoft Thompson M1A1 that I can use as a reference model for the thickness and details. One thing though, how do you get the drum mag to stay on the gun? I'm planning to go with the stick mag for mine but I'm not sure how I'm going to get it to stay on.

Thanks. Part of it is friction, since the pieces are very tight. But I have a few small earth magnets in the drum and on the receiver that help. I may need to add something else, as a side hit still tends to knock it off
