Vader ANH chest box. What was it made from? What are the dimensions?

Was the Vader ANH chest box made from wood or some other material? Those lucky enough to own or have seen a casting of a screen used ANH chest box, were there any signs of wood grain anywhere? I know there was on the rocker switches.

Were the rocker switches actually made from wood or just resin castings from wood masters? There were rocker switches on the pilot chest boxes and they were all over the Falcon cockpit for example so surely each wasn't carved by hand from wood?

And does anyone have accurate dimensions for the chest box and rockers?

Lets discuss :)

Markus,
The film used ANH box was not made from wood despite popular belief. I am 100% certain. The rockers however were, and they were used on the x-wings and tie pilot boxes. You can see the paint chipping revealing the wood underneath on vader and xwing boxes during filming. Also, they re-purposed the wooden rockers for esb x-wing boxes as well.
I still have a couple sets of super accurate wooden rockers made directly off a original resin casting if you're interested. Wood type, wood grain orientation, and width of grain have all been accounted for in these replicas so that when painted, they will match the screen used look exactly.

Interesting - so, what was it made from? Fiberglass?

BUMP.

Any further info?

I have read in several sources that the ANH box was 6 3/4 by 6 3/4 but I can't confirm that data with anything from the actual film used piece.

Anyone care the chime in?

Also, how thick was it?

Well if anyone can confirm the Width and Height, than the Thickness of the Box can be calculated through pics...

I have it on very good authority that the chest box is a bit bigger - based on actual measurements it's
6 7/8" square and approximately 1 1/8" thick.

The real red and green lights have been found. If you know that dimension you can determine everything with photo scaling.

Clever idea.

OK, are any owners of the 'found part' red/green lights able to help with this?

These are the measurements I have from my casting:

Box
6.722" square (approx. the box is slightly misshaped)
1.032" thick

Rockers
1.870" height
1.607" inner height
0.693" width
0.395" thick at the high points (approx. it's kind of hard to get an accurate reading on)

And yes you can actually see and somewhat feel the woodgrain grooves on the rockers, especially the second one in from the right.

Those box measurements Lambotour are pretty much bang on for ESB :thumbsup . I have not studied the ANH box I assumed it was a fraction bigger than ESB but am not 100%. I know those measurements are ESB within range of 1mm or so. Those measurements make the ANH and ESB box the same size by that comparison which is interesting.

BTW Good of you and Anson to give honest measurements :thumbsup .

Thanks DV. If I can help I will. I'll see if I can post a pic of my casting. Interesting that it matches the ESB box. I had always thought the ESB would be thicker or so it appeared that way in pics.
