Vader ANH chest armor

This particular chest armour (whilst painted very roughly.) appears to have a black stripe running down the center ridge - any thoughts about this? Or is it just a trick of the light?

Also, I would like to know if the center ridge is curved or has a fairly flat edge? Despite pouring over screengrabs and reference materials this particular detail still remains elusive to me. I'm not sure how curved the ridge should be.

Any thoughts would be welcomed.

The painted stripe doesn't appear to be there on a lot of ANH photos - do you think it was a detail added later for the ESB promo pic(which I think this may be from?).

Again, it could be lighting but look at this scene from ANH - looks like it could be painted black there, too:

However, in some scenes it definately isn't painted black - just silver.

Yet in the Kermit photos, it's definately silver:

Was there perhaps one set of ANH armour with the black painted ridge at the time of the production? Or is the first photo posted simply a touch up job later on?

This photo with the strip.........the paint has obviously been touched up over and over and over..........hence the layers of paint you see on everything. It's possible it was not on screen. I have seen some photos that make me think it was there.......it's just that the black and gray highlights tend to wash one another out alot on film.........they are only somewhat visible in certain shots............making the armor appear to be only solid gray at times. We know it wasn't solid gray in every scene at least. The HD version may shed some better light on this very issue.

A great example can be seen in Rocko's second pic from the top..............I can see a black gray line in that pic. But in the next frame a couple pics down..........you can't see it.

That promo pic you see at the beginning of this thread.........it is a definite that it's painted black in the center of the strip. I have the poster sized photograph at home.

When i was looking to hand paint my armour for anh i noticed this black stripe down the center in this photo but was unable to see it appear like this in any other photos or on screen, so i left it plain silver.

Its hard to compare promo shots with screen shots as the lighting levels are normally so different the colour of the armour is hard to determine and the armour has definaletely been touched up several times after shooting finished.

Its quite obvious, as Dave already said, that there have been several layers of black paint added.

Maybe it's been clearcoated too (although why any propmaker would want to clearcoat such a rough paintjob is beyond me...) - the brush marks seen on the screen used armour seem to have entirely gone.

Ya that armor has been repainted....the original set doesn't have that black strip...good question about the flat center part...I'll check my HD ANH source about that but I've always thought it's got a bit of a flattened peak to it in ANH...flatter still in ESB...

You go through a torrent website. The files are like 10.2 GB for ANH and 11.3 GB for ESB :eek
