Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor - NEW SUIT DONE Pics on p.17

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

Will you be able to make the hands useable at all as they won't be occupied ?

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

Man this build is coming along so well. I can't wait to see what you'll be doing with the hands...

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

Seeing almost all of it setup makes me want to get 2 of them and make them guard my front door.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

After seeing this build I have all the faith in the hands!
This is fantastic!

I'm picturing the toy robot/buzz lightyear hands. the ones you pull the fingers closed from nack in the forearm. just bigger... much bigger.

Keep up the great work thorssoli ! cant wait to see more.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

That is just the coolest thing ever, the dimensions look great.... bathroom breaks will be interesting:p A pair of platforms and a giraffe like neck and he could almost put the helmet on!

Im also interested to see what is happening with the hands. the first thing that popped into my mind was extended animatronic hands, but gripping strength may be an issue

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

I just realized something, if the Space Marine is that big, then how big would a Terminator be? :eek

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

Hi guys, thanks for the compliments. I haven't made much progress on the hands. Right now they look like so:

So the palms are about 90% done. I still need to make a couple more knuckles and all of the fingertips. Then I'll be ready to mold and cast copies.

Today I made great strides forward on the backpack. First I worked on the wedge shapes for the sides:

Then I framed up the cowling that will arc over the top:

I skinned over the frame, but it will need more attention before I'm ready to make pulls:

I still have to trim the sides down and I'll probably laminate another layer or two of plywood to round it out better.

Right now it looks like the backpack will consist of eight separate vacformed parts and I'll be rotocasting the ball/vent arrangements for either side. Any smaller details will be resin casts.

Re: Vacformed Warhammer 40k Space Marine Armor

One of the great things about the size of this build is that you will have plenty of space if you want to install fans or a camel bag.

If a full size Rhino won't fit in the workshop there is always the bike :)
