V for Vendetta doublet

Was a good or good enough match ever found for the doublet basketweave fabric? I was looking again with little luck in an actual silk. I found a black coated to give it some shine I guess basketweave variant of the kylo ren fabric that doesn't look too bad but I think the texture is thicker than the original so just double checking. Think it's the best just looking at it at a distance I've seen other than just going straight black.

Just still wanting to do some upgrading to this outfit and seeing if anything had been found. Thanks!

I've looked for years for a basket-woven silk. To this day, this is the most decent I've found and the only reason I haven't bought it yet is because I'm unsure of the pattern size. If it's too big, it looks bad.

It's nowhere near as unique as the silk used for V, but it looks like it resembles a rectangular weave. If the size of those rectangles was specified, I think I would have bought a few meters. The Kylo Ren fabric can serve as a substitute well enough. The texture is thicker because its weave is closer to a literal basket weave as opposed to being a brocade that resembles a custom basket weave, which is what V's is.

You know, people who've had tailored doublets made for a more unique V costume have usually gone with diamond or checkered fabrics. Plain fabric isn't bad but the fabric is not as important as the close-to-body fit which has to be heavily padded. If you want it to look like V's, it even needs shoulder pads like suit jackets have.

I've looked on and off and never found one completely suitable. Like I said with my first one not having found an actual fabric I came across black full length curtains that had a texture to them that I used just to not go solid black not fully knowing the pattern at the time. There is a nice looking doublet available that is the straight black and while it looks very good I still would like to see about something that at least hints at the pattern in the doublet so will have to take a look at this! Where is it available? Have you ever inquired into the size at all, I did this for a fabric once and they were very quick to give some scale reference.

Just curious, it's a cool costume and a movie/character that I really like so have always wanted to upgrade this outfit. Don't necessarily have to start with the doublet but was at least looking for a good material again. Will have to look more into the patterning of it which I might not be able to match exactly but as part of the full outfit hopefully a decent version.

Also, how does silk dye? I wasn't thinking of silk as a dyable fabric but I see instructions for it so was curious. Found this basketweave silk fabric though the same question of scale and if would maintain the visible weave.

I have not inquired about it. I only found it recently, around last month. I found it here

They have it in other colors which show the textured pattern better here

I also need to upgrade mine...actually, redo all of it if I could only find a better silk fabric.

I've found several silk fabrics like the one you posted over the years but I looked past them because the texture scale is too small. These silk fabrics are usually meant for ties and handkerchiefs. Regarding scale, I took the highest resolution photo I have of V, resized the photo until the buckle was 3.5" in length and determined that the scale of the rectangles on the silk are approximately 12mm in length by 5mm.

I don't know how well silk dyes. I can't help you there. Maybe get a swatch of some random white silk and do a test with it?

Alright, yeah seeing the other colors does help as far as seeing the pattern as you said. I shot a quick question to see if there was any way to determine scale by a shot with a ruler or some known scale reference so we will see... Same, I pretty much need to upgrade all of it. I mean it worked for the original Halloween costume that it was and I've done it since but want better. Happy with my mask but pretty much the rest needs improved.

I know this is an old post. But if any one still looking for a convincing fabric to make the doublet, it's look like the Kylo Ren fabric could be a good alternative.
I also saw a velvet with good basket weave pattern but i think it is better to ask for a sample cause it's look like it is an upholstery fabric.

Good thinking. The original fabric has been sourced in another thread and it is incredibly expensive per yard. For an average person it's well over $300 worth of material just for the doublet.

Oh yes I know what you mean for the fabric ^^"

I have this costume project since much years, and I hope to finish it this year.

Hi, I'm back with some news of my WIP of V's doublet. Its need a lot of work before finishing but it starts to look good :) I can't wait to wear it !
That’s looking good there. Now it’s 2022 have you finished it? I would LOVE to make my own. I still can’t find a pattern or any good material. Did you by any chance make a pattern that I might be able to buy from you perhaps? And is that the original fabric? Im so jealous.

Hello. As the great classics do not go out of fashion, I am making my own replica. Could someone provide me with the pattern of the doublet? Thank you.
