UPDATE - Portal 2 Trailer with in-game video

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

Ditto. IMHO it has one of the best written characters in all of gaming... and she's the only character in the game (GlaDOS). Not even your player-character has any development.

REALLY well done... and super fun!

Thanks! Downloading now, what's it like?

Ooh, just watched the trailer. Looks intriguing.

This was my all time favorite game. Pity it was so short. I hope they have a sequel. Glados was awesome and the song at the end is very catchy.

Great concept, very fun to play.

is it the full game that's free or just the demo?
I tried looking for it to link to a friend, but it just shows that it's $29.99

It's an FPS with only one gun: the portal gun. You can reate two portals anywhere in the level and use them to move around the puzzle. But there's all kinds of tricks and techniques that you need to master to move on to all of the levels... and when the final puzzle is solved, that's when it gets interesting. ;)

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

they are making a sequel right now. they werent sure the first game would be popular so it was more a proof of concept. the second one is a full length game. also has a 2 player mode!

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

Downloaded it last night - full game, free.

It's a special offer to celebrate the release of the STEAM client for MAC OS-X

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

I've played it on my PC before, but now I'm DL'ing it on my Mac. Interested to see if it runs as well or not. Haven't tried anything beyond WoW on my Mac yet, so we'll see what my vid card is capable of.

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

Only problem with the Mac version is that it's for Intel based Macs.

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

I loooooove Portal. Played it multiple times.

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

Just played a bit of Portal and from what I can tell it runs just as smooth and pretty on my Mac as it did on my PC!

So, since this port was able to be made, can Half-Life 2 and Team Fortress etc. be in the near future? I hope I hope I hope! The rumors are out there already.

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

Oh, they're coming. Half Life, Half Life 2 & Episodes, Left 4 Dead, you name it. They're all coming.

Wait. Steam has other games available? Geez marion god. I just downloaded Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...a 21 year old game on my MAC 10.6.3!!! And it works! Holy &$%#.

Look! There's The Dig! Fate of Atlantis! :love It truly is a good day to be a Mac user.

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

Not even your player-character has any development.

That's not true. The player-character "Chell" has a lot of development going on. She's a mysterious character who's been put into a mysterious cycle of tests for unknown purposes. You can actually find out hints of what makes you unique in the later parts of the game. Like your knee job for example.

And who the heck do you think you are for leaving out the character who put fourth one of the game's most signature quotes "The Cake is a lie!"? The Rat Man! Talk about a character that got my interests. Who was he/she? Is he/she still around?

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

I love this game, I've played through it more times than I can count, completion time is down to 44 minutes. Glad to hear they're making a full length sequel.

Not glad to hear all these games will be playable on a mac. I mean geez, they're slowly fixing all the stupid faults of the mac. First the lack of a left click, now the games. How will I argue the superiority of the PC with the other people in film school now?

Re: FREE GAME: Portal for Mac & Windows

The only thing more interesting than "Portal" for free is "Portal: Prelude."
