Unwanted model kit parts????

Just wondering if there are any people out there that scratch build and end up having left over kit parts they don't want? I would be interested in spare parts from aircraft and military kits to try and scratch build my own models. Interested in hearing if this is even a viable option.

Surely there must be tons of parts left over from various scratch builds, its something I've often thought about, in fact I've used several spare parts over the years as greeblies on things like Predator armour and helmets :thumbsup

That's what I was hoping for, but I'm not really sure what people do with the extras...keep them for later use, throw them away, etc? And I'm not looking to get them free...although it would be nice.

One of the things with scratch building is that you can never have too many parts to source from. Most people keep bins of parts for that time when they are looking for just the right part. To create your own bin I'd suggest doing a search on ebay for "model lot" tank, ship, plane, race car, etc. and see if you can pick up a bunch of models cheap. that's what I did when I started. Then of course there are certain mopdels that are used all of the time that you'll probably want to puck up specifically and learn how to cast in resin...

I did try ebay, but didn't "search" correctly, so I'll try your suggestion. Thank you.

I have some kits I would like to get rid of.

Robotech,space shuttle,leopold etc.

As long as someone pays a for the shipping.

I'm always looking for railgun kits. PM me with a list and we'll talk. :)

As to finding sources for leftovers, many folks have discovered they can get rid of their "junk" by selling lots on eBay as was stated earlier. Most such lots I've seen tend to be for car and truck parts. But, don't expect to find too many bargains. These days, even "junk" can sell for big bucks!

The best bet is to scour local flea markets and garage sales and also a local IPMS show for really cheap kits. Those are about the only places you can still find bargains. Kits that are incomplete and missing parts are often priced really cheap and can be considered useful for spare parts. Once in a while, a large hobby shop I know sells kits that have missing parts for less than $5 each. I try to pick those up when I can.

Good luck and good hunting! :)

good suggestions...I will definitely put them to use.

Noble - you're just asking for shipping? That's fair. Are these kits put together or still unassembled?

Yeah, I have bins and bins of sprue stuff labeled "useful someday" ;)

Dude - the Leopold is GOLD right now. Don't sell it for less than $25!

I save all sorts of junk. I rcently took four or five old hard drives apart just for crap to use. lol

I have two partial PCs upstairs that I need to finish tearing down for parts.

I have three kits of the tank needed for the Jedi Training Remote parts, sans the important parts of course...

Free for those will pay shipping in the U.S.

Interested, you have pics? How much do you think shipping would run? You could condense, even remove the parts from sprues to make shipping cheaper.
