Hey ^^

Im looking for a type of fabric but in not quite sure what its called or where to get it.

From a perfect front angle it looks pretty much white but as soon as it is angled it goes brown.

Any ideas what this is?

Thanks
Pinky :)

Shiny or matte, structured or smooth surface?

Could be some kind of silk, based on your description, but without further infos it´s just speculation :confused

My underwear?

As one of the many fabric experts around here, I have to agree with Markus. There are iridescent taffetas that would do that, but this is just speculation. Without further info, this is the best its going to get I'm afraid.

Do you have a picture of what you're looking for? I can identify many fabrics from a picture.

Sorry ment to attach pictures earlier on but i was horribly late for college :lol

The best side picture where the wongs are still kinda white are in the Film Companion andi cant seem to find the image anywhere online so if its really needed i will scan it and put it up here but there should be ok for now.

Well i don't think that is plain netting. There is definite moire in the picture which means that the fabric has been treated or woven. It is also sheer as well. There are many poly and silk sheer fabrics that would achieve this. Most stores have a lot to choose from. It would be one of those that you would have to actually see to pick.

I would love to see a pic if they show how the wings attached to the harness...

The moire may also be caused by there being two layers of fabric. If you layer nylon stocking material, for instance, you'll get a moire effect from the sheer knit of the fabrics not aligning. My 2 cents

Well ive found the perfect brown in the hobby shop by me so im going to put a much lighter brown inbetween to get that effect :)

Thanks alot

QUOTE=Aquaman;835619]so whats ur plan on how to attach the wings to the harness in the back?[/QUOTE]

Well there straps that go over the shoulder and are very tight to the armpit so they must be attached to a harness and as the device isnt visible in any of the screen caps or behind the film scenes it must have a very small size and shape. Using these two pieces of information i reckon a trapiezium like piece of material would be the best shape to attatch the wings.

Using the rest of costume as a basis and the timeframe i reckon this would be handsewn in a dark leather. Im going to talk to David Gibbon next month though to see if he has any memory on how it worked.

A diagram is attached below.

Ive done a mock up and it worked perfectly, the wings had the same flexibilty and the straps sat exactly as they do on the actor so i think ive got the design spot on. Im going to start the wings in the next week roughly so i wil post up some pictures of the finished harness once done.

As from what I see from your pictures, I'm also thinkin about organza if you need my opinion about the fabric. I came to that idea when I looked at the second picture.

Cool! So u know D. Gibbon?

Not personally but i see him frequently at events. Wouldnt mind seeing Alan Moore this year but he is abit far north for me:lol
