Take care of yourself and always watch your six. Find a computer and keep in touch. Thanks for serving.

I deployed to Tikrit from 04-05 during the time that crap went down in Falluja, I know enough about deployments to know that they suck. One of the biggest lifesavers I had was a labtop computer. It's an all in one as far as games and movies goes, if you don't have one I strongly recommend you invest in one. Unlike the missions my team is currently pulling in Afghan, Iraq is pretty well built up right now as far as creature comforts go, you'll have hot water, toilets, gyms, and good MWR facilities where you'll be able to check your email and check out movies. If you smoke, dip, or chew: STOCK UP BEFORE YOU LEAVE. We had guys scalping cigarattes during the great newport shortage of '04, LOL, certain brands are nearly impossible to come by. You also may want to personalize your kit (gear and weapons system) according to the mission you will be conducting there. I've got a brother over there right now with the 3rd ID, they're sticking those guys with a 15 month deployment so keep that in mind, it's better to go over prepared than under prepared when you might be facing that kind of staying time.

Best of luck.
