Well, it’s noon which means the contest venue is opened for spectators at Wonderfest. Venue closes at five and judging begins. Already made arrangements to change batteries for the judging period. There are definitely more figures than ships here.

Glad to see that you and the beast made it safely to Louisville.
Thanks, the model makes a very unique sound when it gets free from the carry board. It won’t get free on the way home… let’s hope the deer and the other motorists play nice.

Minions! Wait, wrong forum. Greetings folks, the smoke has cleared and the entry count for Wonderfest 2025 was 1080. I got five admiration poker chips and a lapel pin from Squadron Hobbies (funny that I have an orange cat at home). Cygnus received a silver trophy and I got some pointers on how to tighten up the model even more. Must survive the road trip home and prepare for the PAMSCON show in Lakeland, FL in a few weeks.

Congratulations! Well deserved.

I hope you didn't get any pointers, from whomever mounted the 'Silver Award' badge on your trophy! :D

Here’s the link to Wayne’s video covering the fifty gold medal winners from Wonderfest along with his favorite models. There is other stuff, too. Including a look in The Ark of the Covenant replica that was being kept on my floor of the hotel before being taken down to display.

Who did the stretch LM of MOON ZERO TWO?
Good question. There was quite a few 50’s Sci Fi models. Unless the model was from a manufacturer, it was hard for a first time attendant (that’s me) to know who did what unless I met them or I was told. Names are hidden on contestants table forms. Getting show stats seems to be tricky, too.

Well, it took two weeks but Cygnus is back on the living room work table. I was advised at Wonderfest that I should do some detailing with colored pencils. I really do need to mix in some minor shades of browns and light greys. Doing anything on the underside is tricky because this thing is not meant to come off the base or be layer over. Challenge!

Well, two nights before PAMSCON 2025, I decided to add some color to Cygnus by addressing some of the pipes on the outer hull. On Thursday night I colored the plumbing the was located at the front and back portions of the center section. I’m still a little annoyed that the ‘A’ tanks were printed in the sections which means I couldn’t paint them. And painting the loose tank sections on the other side would just look odd. I wanted to get some browns on the model. I used Prisma water colored pencils to lay the initial color on section end plumbing. A damp brush helped work the colors nicely. Turned in for the night and took pictures the next morning. Went to work and looked at the pictures a few times and decided to address all of the plumbing on the center section. After browns, I flat coated the work and later rubbed everything with charcoal powder which gave it a nice distressed/Roman bronze look. The four pipes that run the full length of the center section got the same treatment ( was tricky to do because the model is not meant to be layer down and the I’m old).

Greetings folks, my odyssey with Cygnus continues with the invite that I got to attend the PAMSCON show. Great venue and a good turnout. Cygnus sat next to Larry Wilson’s Swordfish II and U.S.S. PIRI REIS ( which were my direct table mates at Wonderfest). Long story short, Cygnus won gold, Best SciFi, and Best in Show. Also got a Sprue Brothers coozy, a Nice Work sticker, a poker chip, and a $50 gift certificate from Squadron. However, since this was a Regional meet, it’s seems the rematch I was hoping for at this years Modelpalooza is now derailed. Cygnus will be there for display. Making plans for the National show in August.

Congratulations on the gold. I wasn’t sure about the newly-coloured sections on the Cygnus, but under normal lighting it looks fantastic. If you ever make your way up to Ontario, Canada for a show, I’d love to see this in person.

Thank you, I just finished making arrangements for the IPMS Nationals in Hampton VA. Two months ago, I didn’t think I’d be doing this but anything’s possible.
