Ok so i'm getting fed up paying $$ for TV, nothing to watch (ZERO interest in BS drama/reality shows), so i pay premium to get packages + extra channels... NOPE still crap or a handfull of interesting shows/documentaries... that they air, re-air, rere-air and you are back to muting the TV.

What options are available out there to watch TV channels from different countries? Our main interest is watching UK channels because the quality of shows/documentaries is at least 10 times better than NA standards.

I'm not talking about paying premium to watch a dumb down, NA VERSION of than channel (ie BBC Canada... NOTHING like the real BBC channels). Also downloading... we are very limited with our download bandwidth and the next bracket is very expensive.

It can be a computer program, APP, hardware... you name/recommend it and i will take a look!

Right now i'm thinking of looking for an iPad app, and someone connect my iPad to my TV. I have heard of a LOT of mix success doing it this way...

Thanks :)

Have you tried going outside once in a while? :p

But seriously, perhaps getting into a time consuming activity might do the trick... worked for me. Between a day job and building my workshop, I watch about 6 to 8 hours of TV a week.

And I agree with you, there isn't ever anything good to watch. :(

Going outside? Every single day. Even when there's 1 meter of snow or pouring cats & dogs. I call it full time studies + full time work + groceries shopping (we never buy take out/fast food/etc, we always cook) + exercising (i run and cycle) :p

When i'm home and i 'relax', id like to enjoy something nice to watch, w/o having to flip through 100 channels of crap and then just end up turning the TV off.

They were talking big with the FCC about having cable set up so you could choose exactly the channels you wanted but it's never gotten far. Neither side in the arguments can get alone for enough time to even talk.

Sending you a PM.

Yeah, I wish TV providers offered "A La Carte" program packaging. I have Dish Network and I normally only watch maybe 10 - 12 channels routinely. I don't need 7 shopping networks, 10 cartoon channels, 5 boxing channels, 6 hockey channels, 3 MTV channels, 4 ESPN's, or 2 spanish channels. But I'm paying for 'em...

We have A La Carte options... but 90% of the good channels aren't available unless you pay premium for a package (so $25-150 for a package... and most of the included channels you couldn't care less about...)

It is tough because you have a limit on downloading. I have been happy with dropping cable, bumping my internet connection up and using a mix of Roku(for channels and access on the tv with no network connection), Netflix and Amazon Prime. Combined, these are less than half of my cable costs.

The last time I had a TV signal was 1989, I have an extensive video library when I do want to watch something. Think of the money I saved on cable bills, and more importantly the time saved by not looking for a needle in a haystack! I hate surfing channels when I go to a hotel, Self programming makes the viewing experience much more enjoyable :D :thumbsup

Agreed.

Between Netflix, Hulu, my own collection, and ... other services, I spend ~$20 a month for TV.

MUCH better than the $100 a month for cable that really gave me nothing.

V--- This.

Do to lack of interest I stopped watching TV about 11 years ago.
If there is something I wish to see I can find it on line or just wait for the DVD to come out.

Last year while staying at a hotel I surfed cable and still found nothing worth watching.
Even Shark week was a total bore.

I remember back when the Learning Channel was nothing but Australian documentaries as far as the eye could see.

"Here we are in the great Australian outback. Note, we are no longer in front of the pub, we are... out back."

We tried Netflix, it lasted 1 month. The movie selection is garbage...

Hulu i heard of it, i'll see if it's available in Canada.

I hear ya. But you can watch Star Wars and Raiders just so many times...

*ducks and runs*
That may be true but I have yet to reach that point! :lol:D(HD SW without the SE crap? I'll never tire of that ;))
I'm at about 250 films and 28 seasons of TV programs on DVD, I have recently expanded my digital library with hundreds of hours of great programming and feature films so I'm stocked with fresh stuff for quite a while!:D:thumbsup

I have netflix through the mail service, I noticed alot of titles aren't available streaming though. My local video store is full of junk and has zero "classic" films (more than 30 years old) so I use netflix for getting obscure or older movies and TV shows (just watch the Shat on Twilight Zone!:))

Can someone explain how the channels with Roku work - are they subscription channels?? I saw there are supposed to be 400 but what does that REALLY mean.

I'm so pissed at Comcast I'm about ready to throw my cable box out the window.
