Tusken Raider Boots - Let's talk about them

Even If most Raider costumers don't care I do. I have been looking for a decent pair of boots that do the job. Take a look at these photos:

As you will see, the sole is rust red or red. And It seems like the one converse shoes have. A vulcanized sole you will say. Well, I may have found a good replacement If not the model used for the Tusken Raiders. This is why I need your help to corroborate my hypothesis.

These are Industrial Rubber Boots:

Take your time to google some of those boots and compare the pattern of the sole and the shape. What do you think? how do I know they used boots, simple, took some screen captures from HD version of the film:

Over here in England we call these boots "Wellies" , short for "Wellington" Boots. It may help refine the search a little further. Also, the leading brand of "industrial" wellies (used mostly for farming) is called Argyle Hunter. These used to be two seperate brands I think, then merged. I've got a pair of modern ones which have that same cross hatching around the sole seam.

Rubber boots maybe was used at that time, but for trooping....i don`t think so. You could use a work boot or military, sure more comfortable for trooping hours.

Juan, I know that could be true, but I am more concerned about accuracy than comfort. And the cheapest option in Argentina talking about boots are rubber boots too, so I don't have much choice. Leather boots are quite expensive and don't have that shape or sole.

I get that, there are work shoes that have that kind of sole shape, and the leg part can be made like my scout boots adding leather or vinyl, we are talking about US100, but they are very comfortable, you saw me at the CV hours and hours with the boots on :D

Thanks for the info. I also believe they bought the boots in UK, or nearby. BUT could not find any single photo of one of those boots with red sole. In the other hand, in USA, there are a lot of manufacturers doing them with red sole and the very same pattern we can see at the sole. Interesting hug?:unsure

Just one more evidence of the shape and length of the boot:

After looking dozen of photos, I am quite convinced that Industrial Rubber Boots were used for this costume, especially the ones with red/rust sole. what do you think?

Industrial Rubber Boots are a good choice I have em for my tusken but it will be hard to place the wrapping on them as the glue wont stick to the rubber wery good. good luck :)

Well, I like the challenges, this is why I am trying to identify the model used back in ANH movie. I am really sure that they were this type of boot. Most of the other boots used were from WW1/WW2 uniforms, so I tried there first. Later realized that leather boots don't have that style of vulcanized sole. I am so pesky about that. Won't stop until I found it or at least, can name a good replacement by brand and model. After all theses years, that would sound logica.

E-6000 will do the glueing trick! Great detective work again, Diego!

I´m also convinced they used boots with a rubber sole but never cared to find the accurate one as i planed to do my Tusken as a bust anyway... :)

Well, just in case someone is interested in buy a pair of close or accurate boots, these are so far the better ones I was able to find: Baffin Men's Tractor Industrial Rubber Boot

Hope this helps! ASAP I got them in Argentina, will wrap them and post photos.

When did they have clawed feet or did you mean would look better with clawed feet? :confused

I am pretty sure he was talking about Tusken looking better with clawed feet, not that they were in the movie.:love. I would disagree, like them wrapped like mommies. I like the people always asking how they are under all that fabric and mask.:cool

I personally use rubber boots for my tusken raider (albeit they're brown and not "rust red") use LOTS of wrappings and LOTS of glue and they hold together pretty nicely and they're a breeze to put on and take off. the only problem is finding a solid comfortable size. I noticed today after not wearing my tusken for a few months that since I've been running my calves have gotten too big for mine so I'm going to have to put a 3-4" slit in the front or back. I marched a parade in them today and I've had no issues with long walks in them, but that may just be me.
