Tron Legacy Movie Review

@ Organic Mechanic :
Hm, IMHO it can totally be the case, and it's even recognized so. Example : Ghostbusters the game, out last year. Harold Ramis said it was canon and " the closest thing to a third movie we could get ".

Of course it's different medias, different ways of experiencing a universe. A movie is a movie, a game is a game. BUT that doesn't mean it can't be a sequel, a continuation of the original movie.

Oh, and my girlfriend watched the Silent Hill movie, and played Silent Hill 2 soon after that, and thought that was part of the same thing. I think it falls into what I explained above.

As for the box-office, taking 100 M$ in 10 days can be great, but the 170 m$ is still far. It really looks weak, even thought a lot of countries ( mine included ) won't see the movie before more of a month. I'm afraid Disney's decision-makers won' be too hot to greenlit another movie after that. Unfortunately. Fingers crossed ! :(

A good chunk of the profits go to the theaters....Which means Tron actually needs to make about twice as much as $170 mil in order to break even.

I certainly see your point, but I strongly feel otherwise. In fact, making video games into the "canon sequels" is borderline discrimination against us non gamers. We want a sequel too dammit!

And I didn't say that your girlfriend wouldn't ENJOY the game. I said nobody likes WATCHING a video game, and then used the usual victim as an example. ;)

The next Tron movie should deal with computer viruses.

@ Organic Mechanic : I see your point too, and I agree with your arguments.

Indeed, girlfriends are often the only victim in the house... So I found a girl who is worst than me. ;p

Interesting enough is the fact, that the Grid programs are more sophisticated than our Internet programs, they had over 27 years to evolve and the commerical Internet came about the 90's. How would be the Internet world be looking compared to the grid?

I have my own personal reasons as to why I enjoyed Tron
I enjoyed the storyline ,the FX , and the characters,

and Im not someone who hops on board a film bandwagon just because of superficial film elements.

I take into account the important aspects of a good story

Not just eye candy and movie fodder

And that's all I have to say about that.

I have to admit that I also enjoyed particular "important aspects of the story". :love

About like an over sized Las Vegas I imagine.

Well, we have to keep in mind that when it comes to The Grid created by Flynn that turns up in "Tron Legacy", it is one he created, so naturally the design would be drastically different from any computer system outside of what Flynn created. Honestly, I expect the Internet to be what it looked like in "Tron 2.0" than it would look like Flynn's Grid.

Yup, the " The HUB " level in TRON 2.0 was quite an interesting depiction of what the web would like from a program's point of view. Really loved that part.

Also, even if it looked like very similar to Tron 2.0's Thorne, Abraxis in Tron : Evolution also represents the virus evolution in the Grid.

It's pretty clear that they intend to expand on the world - I was kind of surprised they didn't touch on the whole Abraxis thing in the movie actually.

Here's hoping they get a chance to make the next planned movie (assuming it does enough world-wide).

Jeez, was I disappointed in this movie. I am a Jeff Bridges fan, so I took the family to see this. It was a total bust for us, as no one liked it very much at all. Good graphics but bad measure of blending action with anything else (not enough sentiment to feel any genuine emotion for the characters).

I know I said it two years ago, but they should've mastered that "synthespian" technology, then made a prequel to The Big Lebowski. It would've been cheaper; not to mention, far more satisfying that Legacy, man. Well, either that, or a direct sequel to The Last Picture Show. Really, any flick but TRON.

That's not a direct sequel.

Again, I wish they use this technology for good, not evil. Imagine a prequel covering the Dude's time occupying various administration buildings, smoking a lot of Thai stick, breaking the ROTC and, like, bowling.

@ CTF : Except that, some people like me, do not like The Big Lebowski. At all. Makes more sense for me to use that technology on a movie like Tron than TBL. But that's just me... :)
