Trek Enterprise lighting need some suggestions

greetings all .

has anyone done any lighting with the Enterprise E bussards that would give it a swirling "lava effect?" Like is seen in the last few Trek movies?

I'm having REL's kit built up and would like to know if somehow its possible to try and recreate the movie effect as much as possible...

any ideas? or better yet any good examples of a way to make the red lights give off a lava swirling effect?

One expensive and difficult option would be to make a small reflector with angled shards of tinfoil in the bussard. Behind that (in the nacelle itself), you'd want a bank of 10 or so very small, right red LEDs, that would sequence on and off in varying patterns.

That might get you close, but I don't think you can make LEDs "fade", so the effect would be quite mechanical. Maybe if the LEDs are all bunched together and if you have no more than 4 off at any one time, and the ones that are on and off are switching places frequently, that might work... it'd be complicated, no doubt. You'd want tiny, specialist LEDs. Surface mounts? I think that's what they're called. Unless you're an electronics whizz, it might quite expensive to get a board like that built.

thanks, I won't be installing the lights, but just wondered if anyone had come close to this sort of effect.
