Translucent Resin

Hi All!

I've picked up some translucent resin and I'm playing around with a life cast. I'm trying to get that life-like, silicone look with the durability of resin.

I've seen a few examples in both 1:6 and 1:1 scales where people have achieved breathtaking results. I was wondering if there were any experts out there that might have some tips for a beginner? For instance, do you have to prime the casting with something like Dullcote? What are the best paints to use in order to keep that translucent look? Would the paints designed for silicone casts work on resin?

Any pointers (or photos) would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

ts actually really easy, just remember that skin is only slightly traslucent. i have seen alot of people do this and they make it so translucent which leaves the piece looking waxy.

paint wise i find that thinned fw inks work well or oil paint.

silicone paint is basically coloured silicone so it will go on but peel off

Thanks Fettster!

I've never used the fw inks - I'll have to pick some up and play with them.

I have done some work with oils and I've always used alkyd painting medium to make transparent glazes. Do you have any recommendations for a better thinning medium in this case?
