Translucent Green Paint?

Anyone have any recommendations for a good translucent light green paint. I've used the Tamiya one but found it didn't bond well to clear resin.

Thanks in advance,
Malc.

Oh almost forgot. I need to find something from a craft store chain or someone who knows Alaska exists and will ship up here.

I recomend glass paint. I've used it a bit recently turning a clear "gem" into a maroon gem. it certainly kept it's clairity and refracts the light well.
most chain craft stores carry it so it shouldn't be impossible to find.

what are you working on if you don't mind me asking?

Drago, are you talking about the kind of paint you use to make the faux-stained glass? When it dries, you can peel it off wax paper and stick it to glass and/or paint it directly onto the glass?

Not sure if this suits your application, but for my Han in Carbonite hero panel I used glow in the dark green acrylic mixed into clear 2 part resin for a translucent effect. I went a bit heavy on the paint part..but less paint to resin ratio would likely be fairly translucent.

Just an idea.

Sure no problem, When Kylash offered the Tinman Emerald Crystals I wanted to get one for my wife who loves the show. However a change of finances meant I had to put everything on hold.

I've recently PM'd Kylash asking if he has any left and the only one is a cast where the tinting didn't take. So If I can get the clear one I can tint the crystal part and paint the rest.

Then when I get the DVD I plan to have a go at the crystal holder necklace for her.

I just hope Kylash will part with the clear one.

By the way many thanks for the help!

You might try anodizing paint from Autozone or some similar parts store. It usually can be found in red, yellow, blue and green. I’ll try to get you the brand name latter.

PlastiCote do a range of glass spray paints - translucent, kinda thing for tinting windows & such. Like a coloured laquer.

Sorry for the delay, the paints name is Metalcast anodized surface color system by Dupli-color. I bought a couple cans for a project a couple of years ago but I’m sure they still carry it. If green is unavailable the paint can be easily mixed for airbrush use (Blue&Yellow)and is thin enough not to require a thinner.

Here is the absolute best solution (trust me, I've tried everything). Get some Future Floor Wax (I think now it's called Pledge with Future Shine) and tint it with food coloring. I use it for making canopies crystal clear on my models. And guys who build modern birds, tint it either yellow or green, depending on what they need

Future is an acrylic floor wax that dries rock solid and crystal clear. It can be brushed on or the crystal can de dipped. Because it has a water-like consistency, there are no brush marks and a paper towel will wick away the excess so there are no drip marks.

Pour some in a paper cup (enough to cover the crystal) and start adding drops of food coloring. Stir thourougly until you get the color you're looking for. If you can, find a way to suspend the crystal for dunking and drying, it'll make it easier. Dip in the crystal and then touch a small end to a paper towel. The towel will suck up any runny stuff so you don't end up with drip marks. Or, if you have to brush it on, do it in thin layers so you don't get runs. Don't worry about brush marks in the first few layers, subsequent layers will fill those in.

And if you're not happy with the results, a little bath in Windex (with ammonia) will clean it right up.

This explanation was actually harder than the procedure itself - it really is that easy.

Just curious, why does your post show up in white?

I have the black background with white text. I guess it’s called the Star Wars skins after looking through other posts. I sometimes forget that others may have different settings. Sorry for any viewing difficulties. How’s blue? :confused

Not a problem here mate. I always forget about the Star Wars skins. Actually I've just switched to the Jedi Knight from the default skin and now I see where the white comes in handy.

By the way the blue looks cool under either skin:thumbsup
