Transformers G1 Halloween Costumes for 2014

So after getting the itch of Suiting up in my Scarlet Spider for the ECC I'm ready to start my next projects. My daughters and I have been watching the original TRANSFORMERS cartoons that started back in 1984 when I was a kid. Now I still have my G1 OPTIMUS PRIME from when I was a kid and of course my 4 year old daughter wants to play with it. So as a compromise I bought her a newer Prime and she has since fell in love with him. "LIGHTBULB!" (insert the voice of Gru here) My 11 year old is in love with Porsche's so I came up with this idea..... This year were all going as G1 TRANSFORMERS!

So here is my idea, Myself as Prime, my 11 year old as Jazz, and my 4 year old as Bumblebee. So I shared my idea with them and excited can't even describe how they reacted. So that's my plan and I'm going with it. Wish me luck I think I'm gonna need it..

Well after some research I found a site called instructables. On this site I found a guy who made a home made suit out of cardboard. Here is what his suit came out looking like. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1398631282.623354.jpg
I really like how his came out and decided to use his concept as a pattern for mine. Of course I have to put my own flare to it. Here is my helmet so far for Optimus. I still have to seal it, sand, and paint but a decent startImageUploadedByTapatalk1398631441.635845.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1398631452.861612.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1398631464.597102.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1398631474.511490.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1398631486.074478.jpg

Looks good so far, can't wait to see how this turns out. I have been contemplating making shockwave for some time. as far as the faces of BB and Jazz, there are some really impressive helmets, or "hats" as they refer to them under "Radicons" at TFW2005, granted they are in the prime animated style, but the same basic idea may be similar.

Started on Primes body today and I am working in drawings for Jazz and BB. Looks like Jazz is going to be the most challenging.

Cool! Are you thinking to have fixed shoulders like the reference version?

I went with the toy version for Calgary's Comic Expo on April 26th. =)

Yes I am doing the fixed shoulders on Prime And Jazz, not sure about B yet. Primes helmet is taking longer than I had hoped but it's all a learning experience. Filling it I. And sanding it as we speak. It has to look right before I move on so bare with me.

Thanks Jasecam!

Yes, I found the head to be the hardest part of the costume. I started with a used hardhat. My order of operations was: pattern above the brim and carrying to the back of the head, side panels, back panel & connect to sides & top, front 'side' deflector cheeks connect to sides, faceplate connect to sides, and 'ears' connected to sides. The visor came last as it depended on everything else.

Good luck!

Looking good, off to a great start.

I've read that Instructable on that guys Prime, there's a couple of other good cardboard builds on there too including a really good Soundwave too.

I made my first costume because of running across that same guys instructable! I made Autobot Ratchet with working headlights and flashing red and blue ambulance lights. If you want to see some awesome transforming costumes, go to marksprojects.com. Simply amazing. Yours is coming along fantastic! Now that I look at mine( he is on a display) I am rather embarrassed of it but you gotta start somewhere and it only cost me ten bucks and about a week and a half to make. Cant wait to see all of yours once your finished. Subscribed!
