I've tried unsuccessfully for the last couple years to obtain one of the original base pieces that was used to make the busy box.
I remember seeing posts making the assumption that the original item was a recorder but it turns out that it was simply a desk lamp with built in radio made by Westinghouse.
There were a couple different models made but only one matches the details correctly.
As a bonus, the lamp was used in several places throughout the show.
