TOS Mirror Mirror Kirk

This came together fairly quickly (and done on the cheap with found items).

Around the end of September I came across a woman's gold sweater in a second hand store (for $7!). The material looked pretty close to Kirk's vest in "Mirror Mirror" so I had a brainstorm for this costume!

(Couldn't bring myself to do the actual Nazi salute. :unsure :lol)

So I cut the sweater up the middle and folded the collar to look more vest like. Cut off the sleeves and hemmed the openings by hand. Added the gold trim along the edges and the shoulder epualettes.

I hand sewed the sash myself with material that I thought looked right (and happened to be on sale at $7/yrd).

Terran Empire symbol was from ebay.

Kirk's Medals- these were the most difficult to do with found objects. The large hanging medal and two small "fan" medals, were craft items from Michaels. The "wings" were a set of plastic wings I've had since childhood turned upsidedown, and a small silver model car engine part added to the middle.

Boots were off ebay and probably the most expensive part of this costume at $60 including International shipping (ouch... I really wanted to keep this costume under $50 :confused :lol). But... they seemed to be pretty darn close to the screenused boots. Hard to take a pic of them to make out the details though.

The dagger was done very quick and dirty by cutting it out of foamcore board and spray painting it silver. Definitely nothing to write home about, but very bar/convention friendly. And should it get lost/destroyed or confiscated I'll just make another one. :)

So this whole costume cost me just over $100. :thumbsup

Looking forward to next year's convention circuit! :D

Superbly done!

Can't believe that was a womans sweater! :lol

You have a keen eye!!

When you hit the Con circuit remember to NEVER turn your back on the Chekov look-alikes! ;)

Wow - that's pretty close not even considering the budget build with found items...

Pretty close! Great work. Since you're not going to need your TWOK outfit now, why don't you send it my way...

:D

Okay, so how much, all in all did the costume cost you? ...and, how much time did you spend in the gym to pull off wearing it?

In every revolution, it takes one man with a vision......... to make a costume cheaply that looks expensive!

Great work.

Missing something though.... some kind of accessory, oh yeah, a Captain's woman!

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup :)

Extremely awesome!! I love that that used to be a woman's sweater!! Plus you look the part perfect.

Thanks! I think I was originally looking for a gold vest, but the gold material of this sweater caught my eye on the rack. I'm actually pretty surprised at how well it turned out! I thought it might look weird when I cut it up the middle (or fall apart), but my wife showed me how to use the sewing machine to hem the edges so that they wouldn't fray.

Ha! That's great! :lol :thumbsup

Heh! I'm sure I'll still find some use for my WOK uniform. ;)

I think just over $100- not more than $115. The boots really blew my budget as I wanted to keep this under $50. However they looked like such a great match I couldn't resist.

As for working out... It will be 21 years in January. :wacko

(I only train three days a week now though.)

Great work.

Thanks!

As for a Captain's woman... My wife wouldn't be caught dead in a costume... let alone a Star Trek costume. :cry

I'll just have to wait until the con season to find a Marlena Moreau for pictures. ;) :love

my wife didnt have any interest in costuming until i took her to dcon , now look at her , she's on the far right next to me

^^ rofl

thats totally badass!! i'm not exactly a star trek fan (don't hate me lol) but i did instantly recognise that and it brought back some good memories. if there was a high-five button available i would've hit it!!

Thanks everyone! :thumbsup :)

I feel for you there - my wife's the same way.

So here's a little Barbara Luna... She's still got it, especially considering her age:

I actually did think of doing it maybe a year ago or so. It was kinda of an off the wall brainstorm as I've always costumed as Kirk (since 1995)... so doing Khan would have been a surprising change for me and my friends.

However that costume is waaaaay too complex for my skills (as well as patience). And I can't really afford a commissioned costume these days. :unsure :(

Funny enough, a friend of mine is supposed to be putting a movie Khan costume together for DC next year.

Kevin

Have you ever considered doing Khan from WOK?

I posted this a couple of months ago - this dude was at Dragon Con this year, and his costume looks pretty good. I would think you might be able to do it fairly cheap...

You could always try a "Space Seeds" Khan, while everybody now a days (myself included) tends to think of ST II when they think of Khan he did make his first appearance in "Space Seeds" and a "Space Seeds" Khan costume might be a bit cheaper and easier than "Wrath of Khan" costume. It might also be a bit more original since I've never seen anybody do a "Space Seeds" Khan.
